Are you sure the problem is with the pump?

First of all, you should always make sure that it is the pump that is broken, and not some other unit of the device. A thorough diagnosis will clearly demonstrate whether the pump is damaged or whether the drain has stopped working for another reason. To do this, you should check a number of SM elements.

Drain pump. You can determine the pump's performance by ear, so listen to the operation of this part. It will be enough just to start the working cycle and carefully listen to the sounds that the machine will produce. Pay close attention to the processes of drawing and draining water - if at this time a strong hum is heard from below the SM, and the device itself does not drain or draw liquid, then there is a pump problem. The same can be said about the situation when there is no noise from operation at all, because measured noise must be present during the normal operating cycle.
Garbage filter. If there are obvious problems with the drainage, then close attention should also be paid to the garbage filter. To do this, you need to open the technical hatch in the lower right corner of the washing machine body and unscrew the plastic attachment.A common situation is when the filter becomes clogged with hair, dirt and various foreign objects that prevent the waste liquid from going down the drain.

Very often, the garbage filter becomes clogged with coins, buttons and bra wires, so before washing, always carefully inspect the pockets of your clothes, and try to wash your underwear in a separate laundry container.

Drain hose. Very often, this problem occurs due to a drain hose that could be clogged. To prove or disprove this theory, you need to carefully probe the rubber element, or simply disconnect it from the body and rinse it with a powerful stream of hot water. After the completed manipulations, you should check the functionality of the washing machine to understand whether the problem with the drain has gone away or not.
Impeller. Also, the fault should be looked for in the impeller, which could have stopped rotating freely due to various contaminants. To test it, you need to open the drain filter and try to turn the pump impeller, which looks like a small wheel with blades, with your finger or a thin stick. If movement is difficult, then most likely it is clogged with the same debris that often clogs the garbage filter. If the movement is consistently good, then we continue to look for the cause of the malfunction.

When none of the four checks listed above yields results, you should examine the contacts and sensors of the drain pump. If there are no problems with them, then you will have to check the functionality of the control unit of the washing machine. If the block is in order, all that remains is to replace or restore the pump, which we will discuss in the next paragraph.

Everything you need for repairs

To repair the pump yourself at home, you will have to purchase a small set of tools. The list of repair equipment depends solely on the nature of the breakdown - how big the problem is. The most complete pump repair kit consists of the following elements: SM pump parts

The most reliable way to buy new units is to first disassemble the “home assistant”, remove the damaged elements and take them with you to the store as an example. With a sample, it will not be difficult for the sales consultant to select the same part or its analogue. You can also rewrite the serial numbers of the items you need to find in the store. This method is especially relevant for ordering parts via the Internet, where it is most convenient to search by serial numbers.

As for the tools, everything is much simpler with them. Basically you will need a regular pocket knife and a Phillips screwdriver. Additionally, you can purchase a standard multimeter, which is needed to check the contacts and windings.

Getting access to the pump

Indesit washing machines are not very different from each other, so finding a drain pump will not be a problem. You don’t even have to completely disassemble the washing machine body, unscrew the back wall, top cover, tray or front panel. All you need to gain free access to the drain pump: pump in the washing machine

disconnect equipment from the power supply;
remove waste liquid from the drum, for which you need to use the emergency drain;
disconnect the equipment from the water supply;
Place the machine on its back, first placing rags, carpet or towels under it so as not to scratch the body or floors.

At this point, the preparations are complete - all that remains is to look under the bottom of the “home assistant” to gain access to the drain. We disassemble and study the pump

The most important thing in repairing a pump is disassembling it. It is during disassembly that you will be able to determine whether the impeller is spinning on the shaft, whether it is held securely by the clamps, and whether there are any dirt, foreign objects, hair or other debris inside. If the blades spin without difficulty, only then will you have to carefully disassemble the housing to find the cause of the malfunction inside the device. How to properly disassemble a part?

We disconnect the pump from the volute, for which you need to remove the fixing screws.
We press on the pump from the drain side, and then pull the housing towards us.
We remove the remaining waste fluid from the pump.
We pry the latch on the pump body from two edges to remove the pump from the reel.

This applies to a pump that can be disassembled. If your equipment is equipped with a non-separable element, this does not mean that repair is impossible. In this case, you will simply need different instructions.

We disconnect the pump body together with the impeller from the volute with the coil.
Using a hair dryer set to the lowest temperature setting, carefully warm up the long rear tip of the part.
After a couple of minutes of this procedure, use a screwdriver to pry up the crosspiece and remove it from the body. Along with the element, you will get a magnet, which prevents you from disassembling the pump properly.
We clean the seat and the element itself from all contaminants formed during the period of operation.
We remove the magnet and lubricate its bearing with a special mixture. The second bearing, which is located at the very bottom of the part body, should also be lubricated.
After this, you should install all the elements in their places, following the instructions in reverse order.
When installing the upper part of the case, you should hear a characteristic click, and also make sure that the sealing rubber is securely in place.

Be sure to clean the pump seat, volute, impeller and pipes before installing a new or refurbished part in the washing machine.
