Adjusting the washing machine hatch

During prolonged use of the washing machine, various malfunctions are sure to arise. Timely and high-quality repairs will allow the owner to significantly extend the life of such important household appliances. The list of the most typical problems includes loosening of the hatch door fasteners. It must be remembered that correctly adjusting the washing machine door will help maintain the tightness of the drum during operation. Now it remains to figure out how this adjustment is made.

Troubleshooting the sunroof

Backlash is the gap that occurs between working parts (assemblies) together. In our case, we mean the gap between the door fastening and the body. At the very beginning, you should determine the cause of the malfunction, for which the hatch is completely removed. Having identified the problem, they begin to eliminate it, adhering to the following sequence of actions:

• the door opens completely;
• using a screwdriver (in some cases an 8-mm wrench), unscrew the screws on the hinges (most often two);
• the hatch closes halfway;
• the door pulls towards itself and at the same time rises (until it is completely removed).

After removing the door, first of all it is necessary to assess the condition of the small plastic parts placed on the hinges. Practice has shown that in most cases, play in the fastening of the washing machine hatch occurs due to wear (abrasion).

It is important! It will most likely not be possible to purchase new parts in a store. To fix the damage, you can use standard FUM tape.

The repair is carried out as follows: an approximately equal layer of medium-thick FUM tape is wound onto the hinges. After this, the hatch is put in place, but the screws are not tightened. The door opens and closes several times. If a gap is detected, it is removed again and several turns of tape are added. The check is repeated again. In cases where the initial layer of FUM is too thick, the excess must be removed.

Disadvantage of the above method

Of course, there may be some hesitation about the possibility of completely replacing plastic bushings with fluoroplastic film intended for sealing threaded connections. The main thing in our case is to eliminate the problem in a timely manner. Therefore, it is much more rational to purchase cheap FUM tape at the nearest hardware store than to spend a long time looking for plastic spools of the required size.

Of course, the wear resistance of the tape is very low. Apparently, after two to three months the adjustment of the washing machine door will have to be repeated. But do not forget that this will take no more than ten minutes. In addition, the cost of self-repair will be pennies, compared to calling a specialist and purchasing rare spare parts.

We strongly recommend that, while eliminating the door play, you clean the niches of the washing machine in which the hinges are installed. The fact is that with prolonged use, rust forms and dirt accumulates. It is almost impossible to clean with the hinges attached. Therefore, by eliminating the backlash, you can remove the hinges from the niches and remove contamination.
