Dimensions of the Siberia washing machine
Although washing machines from popular foreign brands are widespread on the market today, many housewives still enjoy using domestic Siberia appliances, which have been produced in Omsk at the Polyot plant since the distant 1957. This is a truly high-quality “home helper” that can compete with foreign models, since it washes well, is reliably assembled and can serve without failure for decades. Let’s look at the main dimensions of the Siberia washing machine so that you can estimate based on its dimensions which type of machine will fit best in your home.
The first "bestseller" of 1966
This Omsk technology gained real popular love in the USSR after the Sibir ZM version with a shaped tank and a convenient control panel located on the front of the SM body went on sale. Moreover, it was one of the first washing machines with a centrifuge, the most important parts of which were made of aluminum, which is especially resistant to corrosion. It weighs 40 kilograms, is 67 centimeters wide, 70 centimeters high, and is only 37.5 centimeters deep, making it easy to place even in a narrow room. Considering the relatively low weight, especially in comparison with modern heavy machines, the Siberia ZM can be easily installed and connected to all communications with your own hands. The most important design features include the following:
- an electrical circuit consisting of a capacitor block, a control panel, a time relay, an underwater harness, a microswitch and two electric motors.The protective casing is made of polyethylene, and the outer panel is made of polystyrene;
- a bypass valve designed to drain waste liquid from the tank, plus to drain detergent. The valve is connected to the hydraulic system of the washing machine;
- the activator drive unit, part of which is a motor with a pulley, responsible for transmitting the force from shaft rotation to the activator;
- rotary drive of the centrifuge with a suspension system, which together trigger the movement of the rotating tank of the squeezing device;
- a centrifugal pump that forces fluid from the SM hydraulic system into the drain system;
- an activator, which is a disk fixed on a vertically mounted shaft, which during rotation helps the laundry rotate in the washing machine;
- chassis for securing the running rollers, tank stands, electric drive motor, capacitor unit, and bypass valve;
- a washing tank made from sheet aluminum.
This is all the necessary information you need to know about one of the most popular washing machines of the USSR.
Fifth version of the Siberia machine
This machine with two tanks and the official name “Siberia-5” went on sale just two years after the release of the “ZM” model - in 1968. The device weighs 40 kilograms, reaches a width of 67.5 centimeters, 70 in height, 37.5 in depth, and the tank is designed for 37 liters of water. The device has an activator with a power of 600 rpm, as well as a centrifuge motor with a maximum speed of 2800 rpm.
This “home assistant” is an improved version of the previous model. It was here that an improved time relay appeared, vibration during operation was reduced, and another filter for the hydraulic system appeared.
"Siberia" sixth model
Let's move on to the most popular model with a power of 600 watts and a tank designed for 37 liters of water. In this machine, the manufacturer has implemented two washing programs. Both the washing compartment and the centrifuge can hold up to 2 kilograms of dry laundry. Moreover, if the activator rotates at a speed of 600 rpm, the centrifuge reaches speeds of up to 2700 rpm. Clothes are wrung out to a residual moisture content of 55 percent or less.
The weight of the device has increased slightly - now it is 45 kilograms, which is why the machine has become even more stable. As for the dimensions, they remained familiar - 37.5 centimeters in depth, 67.5 in width, and the standard 70 centimeters in height.
How to wash with such a machine?
In current conditions, the equipment of this company may seem like an elementary device, but despite this, a number of rules must be followed during operation. For example, in winter, do not start household appliances for at least four hours after they have been in the cold and then entered a heated room. Also, you should not turn on the washing machine without water, as in such a situation the motor will break down, plus, avoid heating the liquid in the tank using a boiler, as well as changing operating modes after activating the working cycle. Let's list the main steps during washing with the Siberia machine.
- First, you should sort the clothes, dividing them by color and material.
Immediately after purchasing the SM, do not forget to remove all the fixing parts that are located on the device’s engine.
- Next, select the normal or delicate washing mode, intended for clothes made of delicate materials, such as wool or silk.
- Now we fill the machine with water, the temperature of which should be adjusted in advance.
- We load the detergent, which can be in powder or gel form, into the washing machine tank.
- We stack dirty laundry in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. For normal mode, a load of no more than 2.5 kilograms is allowed, while for delicate mode the limit is stricter - up to 1.5 kilograms.
- We set the time on the timer to start the work cycle.
- As soon as the wash is finished, the machine will drain all the waste liquid.
- Now it’s time to rinse the clothes, for which you need to fill the tank again with clean water. The activator works for two minutes, after which the rinsing should be repeated, not forgetting to change the water.
- Clean clothes must be removed from the tank and placed in the centrifuge to begin the spin procedure for three minutes.
- Finally, the laundry can be pulled out and hung to dry, and the machine must be unplugged from the power supply.
Do not forget to rinse the hoses and tanks after each wash, and do not close the compartments of the washing machine so that the equipment dries out, does not become moldy and does not acquire an unpleasant odor.
It’s so easy to use this classic washing machine, which over the decades has become the favorite “home assistant” of millions of Soviet and Russian housewives.
