Decoding the symbols on the Whirlpool washing machine
On Whirlpool machines, as well as on equipment from other manufacturers, there are symbols made in the form of pictograms. With their help, an advanced user can figure out how to properly operate the machine. We offer a detailed explanation of the icons on the panel of the Whirlpool washing machine.
Main drawings
The main signs are those that determine the mode of operation and care of laundry, as well as pictograms responsible for general management. Understanding how they are deciphered is especially important - if you choose a program that is not suitable for the type of fabric, there is a risk of ruining things. In general, when using it for the first time, it is still worth studying the instructions so as not to start working with the machine at random.
The picture below shows 4 icons. They all belong to the same series. Each of them corresponds to a certain stage of clothing care.
- Prewash is a basin symbol with the Roman numeral one inside.
- The main wash is the same picture, but with the number two.
- Rinse - a basin with waves of water.
- Spin - in the form of a spiral or snail.
Important! You can also find the pre-wash designation on the powder dispenser; the manufacturer puts it on so that the consumer does not confuse the compartments before starting the machine.
Another group of icons is associated with the end of washing. So, a container filled with water means “Stop rinsing.” Visually, the pictogram is very different from the usual “Rinse” - in the picture, the water in the basin is completely transparent. The drain is depicted as a container with an arrow coming out of the bottom (draining water).The end of the cycle looks like an arrow to the right, pointing towards the door (vertical stick).
This decoding is easy to remember. Some washing machine owners do it even simpler: they stick signed paper stickers on top of the signs. From the outside, this may seem like overkill, but people with poor memory will like this method.
Additional drawings
Different Whirlpool models have different functionality. Each function is indicated on the control panel with its own special icon. If the manufacturer wants to convey important information to the consumer for advertising purposes, he also places it on the body of the washing machine in the form of symbols. True, you can decipher these symbols yourself without additional instructions.
So, if you have a delay timer, you will see a square on the machine with the word TIMER written inside and a number - 8, 12, 24. The number means the time for which the start can be delayed for a specific model. If your washing machine boasts a low noise level, then the manufacturer will mark this point in the form of a square with a sound wave inside and the inscription “very quiet”. The imbalance control is a square with a circle and a double-sided arc-shaped arrow inside.
“Easy ironing” is depicted as an iron bounded by a square. There are two dots on the body of the iron, and a pair of horizontal lines under the sole. The drum capacity looks like a weight with a designation of the maximum possible load weight in kilograms. And an additional rinse is marked with a container of water and a right-handed arrow-arc located above it.“Foam control” - a very convenient function that allows you to remove excess foam and detergent from the drum using a special pump - is represented by a square filled half with water and half with soap bubbles.
In addition to auxiliary symbols, on the Whirlpool panel you can see the designations of washing programs (12 in total). Above in the figure we presented their image. Let's try to decipher them briefly:
- cotton - for cotton and linen items that are resistant to boiling;
- Eco cotton - economical program, with increased cycle time and reduced water and energy consumption;
- synthetics - for mixed and synthetic materials, implies loading things that do not require special care;
- thin fabrics - delicate wash, with minimal spin and temperature no more than 30 degrees;
- wool, silk, jeans, curtains - for corresponding fabrics and items of clothing;
- sports - we wash sports shoes at a low temperature with a slow rotation of the drum.
When washing sports equipment, it is better to use a special gel rather than a standard washing powder.
The “Five Shirts” mode (the icon in the form of a folded shirt) will allow you to quickly wash 5-6 shirts at 30 degrees. The Blankets program is needed to load duvets. There are also additional icons that suggest the presence of rare washing modes or individual functions. To understand them, please read the instructions carefully.
Very useful, thank you!!!!
