Typically, bathrooms in Russian apartments are small, so serious calculations have to be made when placing interior elements, but that’s not even what we wanted to talk about today. At the moment, we are more interested in the possibility of installing a washing machine under a water lily sink, how to do this and what “pitfalls” exist? Let's try to figure it out.

Is such an installation possible?

Having approximately estimated the height of the automatic washing machine and adding another 20 cm to it, we will get the height of the future sink. In principle, it’s normal for an adult; you don’t have to jump up to wash your face. But this is not enough to make a decision about placing the machine under the sink. What do you need to remember when implementing a project like this?

The sink should be deep enough so that you can wash your face in it without splashing water all over the bathroom. At the same time, it should not be too deep, otherwise it will have to be hung too high from the floor level.
The washing machine under the sink should not protrude beyond the boundaries of the water lily sink. Otherwise, water will get onto the washing machine body, which can result in a short circuit in the control panel electronics.
A small gap is required between the sink and the lid so that the vibrating body of the washing machine during operation does not damage the plumbing and fastenings.
The washing machine will take up all the space under the sink, so you will have to install a special siphon. You will have to leave some space for it.
The mixer connection will also require a little space; it needs to be calculated in advance.

Usually it all comes down to the size of a small bathroom. It would be tempting to choose the largest water lily sink and place a standard washing machine under it. But, as a rule, there is too little space left for this between the wall and the shower stall. Not only do you have to compromise on the size of the sink, but also on the size of the washing machine.

Placing a sink above the washing machine is quite possible, but the installation, despite its apparent simplicity, is almost always fraught with problems, many of which, unfortunately, will have to be solved along the way.

Will any sink work?

To implement the planned option of installing the washing machine under the sink, you will have to carefully select the sink. A standard “water lily” has a depth of 20-25 cm. A washing machine can have a depth of 45 cm, a narrow one about 35 cm. It turns out that the body of the machine will protrude forward by at least 10 cm. This is categorically unacceptable. We choose a “water lily” with great depth and an offset drain. Sinks with the drain located in the center will not work.

The depth of the sink must be correlated with the depth of the washing machine, but do not forget to leave space for the drain pipe, siphon and faucet connection. Let's see which modern models of water lily sinks are suitable for installation above a washing machine.

Santek Pilot-60. Square earthenware sink with offset drain and overflow hole. It is quite convenient to wash in it, since it has an optimal height of 17.7 cm. The depth of the sink is 58.9 cm, which allows you to place a washing machine under it. The width of the earthenware product is 60.3 cm.
Bolero.Quite a convenient sink, which was made specifically for installation above the washing machine. The product consists of faience and has a round shape. The drain hole is shifted under a special siphon, there is an overflow hole. The height of the sink is 15 cm, which is enough for convenient washing. Depth – 60 cm, width 64 cm, difficult to fit in a small bathroom.
Dial. Fans of square and flat shapes may like this sink. Its height is not very large - 14 cm, but it is fully adapted for installation above a washing machine. You can place not only a narrow washing machine under such a sink, but also a standard washing machine, since its depth is 57 cm and width 63 cm.

Installation instructions

First you need to take all the necessary measurements and make sure that the sink fits well in both width and height. We make a sketch in which we reflect all the dimensions. We make marks for the holes directly on the wall. We will need holes for fastenings, on which we, in turn, will install the sink.

The wall is covered with tiles, so the holes need to be made with a regular drill with a special drill with the hammer drill mode turned off. After making the holes, install the fasteners and hang the sink. We take measurements again and make sure that the body of the washing machine fits under it without interference and nothing interferes with it, including the drain pipe.

Install siphon for washing machine, and then the mixer. We organize the mixer connection. Try to place the hoses compactly so that they do not come into contact with the body of the washing machine. Next we install the washing machine. We make sure that neither the siphon, nor the hoses, nor the sewer pipe interfere with the placement of the housing.First, we connect the washing machine to the sewer, and then to the water supply. We connect the washing machine and check its operation.

Suitable washing machine models

As can be seen from our story, there are different water lily shells. Among these earthenware products there are models that can accommodate any washing machine, but, unfortunately, they cannot always be hung in a small bathroom. If you are forced to take a small sink, you will have to look for a more compact automatic washing machine with a shallow depth. Let's give examples.

Eurosoba 1100 Sprint Plus. A washing machine with dimensions of only W x D x H – 46 x 46 x 68 cm. It can be shoved even under a small sink, but it only has a load of 3 kg, and it is quite expensive. Its average cost is $950.
LG F-10B8SD This washing machine has a greater height than the Eurosoba, but it has a shallower depth - only 36 cm. The maximum load is 4 kg, which is quite small, especially for a family of 3-4 people. Price: $306.
Bosch WLG 2416 S. A fairly tall automatic machine, which, however, has a depth of only 40 cm. It has a load of 5 kg and a spin speed of up to 1200 rpm. The average price is $340.

Summarize. To install a washing machine under a water lily sink, these two items need to match each other, and together they should ideally fit the size and interior of the bathroom. A sink included with a washing machine can make the decision easier, but these items are rarely sold together. Be careful, strictly follow the installation instructions, and very soon you will have a sink neatly hanging in your bathroom, and a washing machine will be “twirling laundry” under it. Good luck!
