The dishwasher fills with water but does not wash the dishes
If the dishwasher fills with water, but does not wash the dishes, this does not mean that the equipment needs to be urgently taken for repairs or even bought new. It is quite possible that the breakdown is not very serious, and you can deal with it yourself. However, there are many reasons for this situation, so before repair work it is necessary to conduct a thorough diagnosis. Now we will tell you in detail how to accurately identify the problem, and then solve it.
Rocker problem
The rocker arm, also known as a sprinkler or impeller, is a plastic part resembling a propeller in which there are holes for water supply. Most often, the PMM has two such parts, upper and lower, but sometimes manufacturers also add a middle rocker arm. The problem usually occurs due to clogged impeller nozzles, but this cause can be very easily eliminated with your own hands by following our instructions.
- Remove the sprayer attached with a nut.
- Inspect the holes in the part. They may be clogged with food debris or limescale, but it is also often the case that there is no visible dirt.
- Even if the dirt is not visible, flush the spray arm inlet with a powerful stream of hot water. Pay attention to the stream from the nozzles - if there is none or it is very weak, then most likely the element is clogged.
- Carefully clean the nozzles with a toothpick or cotton swab, and then check the water flow again. If everything is in order, then the jet will flow with equal force from all holes of the part.
If you don’t want to clean the element manually, you can soak it in citric acid - just put the rocker in a bowl of hot water, add about 100 grams of citric acid, and leave the impeller in the solution for several hours.
Most often, one of these cleaning methods will solve the problem. However, sometimes the reason is hidden in poor rotation of the rocker arm, then only replacing the bearing will help.
The rubber of the upper rocker arm is worn out
If the problem was not related to the rocker itself, then it’s time to check the rubber of the upper sprinkler. The part is a small rubber circle placed inside a fastening nut. If this rubber element wears out, the water pressure will decrease, liquid will leak, and because of all this, water will begin to flow into the dishwasher much more slowly than usual. In such conditions, there is a high risk that the dishwasher simply will not start the working cycle, so if the rubber band is damaged, it cannot be repaired, but can only be replaced.
- Remove the upper impeller.
- Remove the rubber gasket from the nut.
Don’t rush to install a new rubber element right away - first inspect the part’s location to see if there are any food residues, dirt or other contaminants that may interfere with the elements’ tight fit.
- Reinstall the rubber band.
Now all that remains is to check the operation of the machine - whether it has started washing dishes.
The garbage filter is clogged with dirt
What to do if the second step did not fix the problem with the dishwasher? In this case, it is necessary to remember one of the main recommendations of household appliance manufacturers. The instructions always state that the “home assistant” should not be loaded with overly dirty dishes with leftover fatty food, as pieces of food can create a blockage in the device’s garbage filter.
To prevent this from happening, it is enough to first remove food from the dishes, and also clean the drain filter of the device once a month. This applies to those cases when the PMM does not have a convenient self-cleaning function, which has recently been often added to more expensive models of household appliances. However, this function does not guarantee a 100% result, so if the machine suddenly stops working for an unknown reason, then you need to pay attention to the garbage filter. It easily becomes clogged due to grease, dirt, scale and other debris, so the water drainage becomes blocked and the machine stops functioning normally.
The garbage filter also needs to be cleaned to ensure that solid particles do not get inside the dishwasher through it and damage important parts of the device.
If you suspect that the breakdown is caused by a blockage in the filter, then you need to clean it. To do this, use the following instructions:
- unscrew the garbage filter from its “socket”, which is located at the bottom of the washing chamber;
- completely disassemble the element, and then rinse under a powerful stream of hot water;
- To be on the safe side, you can additionally wash it, the mesh and the cells with a brush and any powerful detergent.
During cleaning, pay attention to the integrity of the part - if there are cracks or chips on it, then there is nothing left but to buy a new filter. A damaged part cannot be repaired, so it will never work normally again, but will only cause another blockage or breakdown.
Having problems with the pump
The fourth diagnostic point is to inspect the pump, which creates the necessary water pressure in the PMM. If it is damaged, the equipment simply will not be able to function normally. Typically, the impeller, a small rotating part, fails, causing interruptions in the water supply and failure of equipment to wash dishes. To fix this, the impeller needs to be examined.
- Disconnect the device from all communications, and then place it on its side or on the back wall to get to the bottom of the device.
- Remove the bottom cover by unscrewing all retaining screws.
- Disconnect the wires and pipes that connect the pump to other parts of the machine.
Be sure to take pictures of all the connections so that you have an example of the connection at hand later.
- If the impeller is not attached to the shaft by the manufacturer of the equipment, then for the convenience of further manipulations it can be removed by unscrewing it along the thread.
- Clean the part from debris, if any. If the blades are broken or cracked, the element must be replaced.
After all the steps, install the part in its place, following the instructions in reverse order. Test the functionality of the PMM by running a test work cycle.
Middle impeller valves
Finally, the final item in the mandatory equipment check program is the middle impeller, which has a docking station. It is this part that directs the flow of water to the middle sprayer. Most often it is installed inside the washing chamber on the back wall of the equipment. Problems appear when the station valves begin to leak or completely block water.
To check this part, you need to disconnect it from the pipe and carefully examine whether debris has gotten into it or whether cracks have appeared on it.Both situations can be corrected quickly - you just need to either clean the element or buy a new one.
