Bosch dishwasher does not finish the program
It's not uncommon for the dishwasher to start acting strange. It seems to be washing the dishes, but when there is very little time left before the end of the program, the machine freezes, begins to tighten the rocker arms and turn on the pump. If it is not forcibly disabled, it can do this indefinitely without producing any system errors. It turns out that the dishwasher does not finish the program, although it should have done so long ago. Today we will find out the cause of this defect, and at the same time see how you can fix it yourself.
Why does this happen?
When a dishwasher does not generate an error code, it may exhibit actions that lead an experienced technician to certain faults that are the cause of everything. However, the behavior of a “home assistant” may not tell a beginner anything, but it is necessary to look for a breakdown. If you have not encountered a similar problem yet, here is a list of possible malfunctions that give rise to such symptoms in a dishwasher.
- Momentary or permanent failure in the control system.
- Damage to the heating element or failure of its power supply.
- There is a blockage somewhere in the drain system.
Most often, such a breakdown is caused by a clogged fine filter of the dishwasher.
- Faulty or clogged pump.
- Intake valve defect.
A physical defect in the control module also cannot be ruled out. Our specialists often had to deal with such symptoms in the operation of a Bosch dishwasher, when individual tires failed or contacts burned out. But still, you need to start checking not with the control board, but with the above parts. If the breakdown cannot be identified on your own, a professional will take care of it and at the same time test the electronics.
Momentary failure
First of all, be very careful about the symptoms of a dishwasher malfunction. We will now describe typical symptoms, and you will compare them with the behavior of your equipment. So, when you start a short program, the machine can wash the dishes and not freeze, but when you start the normal or intensive mode, it freezes at the very end, leaving the dishes washed but wet. It is possible to stop the operation of the equipment only by turning it off.
When you turn on the machine again, the program on which the machine was just hanging may not turn on at all. Activating another program leads to the fact that the Indesit machine or any other washes the dishes and freezes at the very end. Are the symptoms familiar? The behavior of the machine may differ in minor details, but this does not change the essence of the problem. What do we do first?
First, a short-term system failure must be excluded from the list of possible breakdowns. To do this, you need to turn off the machine from the button, and then turn off the power by completely removing the plug from the socket. Let the washing machine sit for half an hour, and then turn it on again. If there was a glitch, rebooting can clear it up the first time and the machine will work fine as before.
Clogged system or pump
Rebooting didn’t help, it doesn’t matter, this is not a reason to disassemble the dishwasher. Check how fast the water goes down the drain. Perhaps your sewer pipe is simply clogged and therefore the dishwasher cannot remove waste water at the proper speed. If the pipe is clean, remove and check the PMM drain hose.Next you need to clean the garbage filter, remove the fine filter and clean it. If you don't know how to do this, check out the post Replacing and cleaning the dishwasher filter.
The fine filter can be found “in the bowl” where the garbage filter is placed.
Next, you need to remove and clean the dishwasher drain pump. In order to get to it, you will have to turn off and pull out the machine, and then remove its side walls. Often you can find a whole lump of dirt on the pump impeller. If the pump is clean, check the resistance of its coil with an ohmmeter. Replace the failed part.
The heating element is broken
If the dishwasher does not complete the cycle that the selected program suggests, there is a chance that the heating element is to blame. Not every breakdown of the heating element is accompanied by similar behavior of the machine, but only a breakdown and leakage of current to the body, so be careful. If, along with the symptoms we indicate, the body of the machine begins to lightly shock, then most likely the heating element is to blame. It should be checked in any case if the breakdown cannot be detected.
We get to the heating element through the side wall of the machine, it’s not difficult. We remove the wires, loosen the clamps and remove the part. We check its resistance with a multimeter, and then test for breakdown. If the defect can be confirmed during inspection, replace the part without thinking. A breakdown is a very dangerous breakdown.
Let's check the intake valve
“For a snack” we still have the intake valve. The likelihood that he is the culprit in our situation is very low, but it should still be checked. Remove the valve and pay special attention to the membrane, or rather how it opens and closes. If the valve does not close or does not open completely due to debris or lime deposits, you need to clean it all out. If poor opening and closing of the valve is caused by other, unknown reasons, you simply need to replace the part.
So, what causes your dishwasher to not be able to complete the wash program? There are a lot of reasons; in order to find a specific breakdown, you will have to check many details, but there is no other way. Or call a specialist who will charge you money for diagnostics and repairs. Good luck!
