How to connect an LG washing machine?
Anyone can cope with connecting an LG washing machine independently. You just need to stock up on a set of wrenches, strictly follow the instructions and take note of a few useful tips. All details, recommendations and step-by-step algorithms are given in this publication.
Where to put the equipment?
Before you connect the washing machine, you need to find a place to place it. It is better to do this before purchasing the equipment, since its model and dimensions depend on where and how the machine will be installed. So, a standard full-size washing machine is suitable for a bathroom, and a built-in, narrow one is suitable for a kitchen set. But the future “home” for the unit must be approached responsibly.
More often the machine is “settled” in the bathroom. Despite its modest dimensions, there is always a place for a washing machine - next to the sink, toilet or under the sink. Everything is purely individual, and depends on the available square meters in the room and the wishes of the owners. The “minus” will be increased humidity, but the “plus” will be the connected communications.
The second most popular place for washing machines is the kitchen. Here the washing machines are placed next to the cabinet or directly in the unit. As a rule, there is more free space in the dining area, better ventilation and less humidity. But there are also disadvantages, for example, unpleasant odors from washed clothes and storage of household chemicals next to food.
The third option is a hallway or storage room. This choice is made when there is no opportunity to “attach” appliances in the kitchen and bathroom. But communications are more problematic here.
It is rare, but it is practiced to install a washing machine in the bedroom.In fact, the name of the room is not important. The main thing is that the room meets certain standards.
- Failed communications. Sewer pipe, water supply, electricity - all this should be no further than a meter from the planned location.
- Flat floor. The surface under the machine must be straight and stable. In other words, the washer cannot sink or tilt to one side. Ideally, you need a concrete or tile floor.
Before connecting the washing machine, you must make sure that the placement location complies with the specified standards.
It is not necessary to connect to centralized water supply and sanitation. There are options for draining waste water into a sink or bathtub, and collecting it from a tank or barrel. The main thing is to ensure full functioning of the machine. Once everything is ready, you can start connecting.
Preparing equipment for installation
It will not be possible to immediately connect the machine to the communications and start the wash. Connecting an LG washing machine begins with the preparatory stage. We are talking about a number of mandatory events.
- Read the instructions included with the equipment. There is no need to neglect the user manual: the papers describe all the nuances, requirements and operating conditions.
- Carefully unpack the washing machine and remove all protective elements, film, ties and foam from the body.
- Unscrew the transport bolts. This is not difficult to do, but you can make a mistake. It’s better not to take risks, but to study the separate instructions that we have already described on our website.
It is prohibited to start the machine with transport bolts!
- Insert special plastic plugs into the holes from the previously removed bolts.There is no need to buy “chopiki” separately - they come complete with the washing machine.
Now the machine is ready for further manipulations. All that remains is to move the unit to the planned location so that access to the rear wall is free. Next, we proceed in order: first we organize a drain, then we connect to the water supply, level the body and set up the power supply.
We organize drainage of waste water
The easiest way to organize the drainage of waste water from the machine is to lower the end of the hose into the bathtub, toilet or sink. The liquid will first enter the plumbing, and then into the central sewer pipe. But all this action looks unaesthetic from the outside, and in addition threatens to stain the snow-white ceramics. Therefore, it is better to go the other way and act through the siphon.
First of all, open the instructions for the washing machine. The manual has a special paragraph about connecting to the sewer system, where requirements for the height of the bend of the drain channel may be prescribed. As a rule, it is necessary to raise the pipe by 50 cm or higher. But it all depends on the specific model of the machine.
If the washing machine has a non-return valve, then the height of the bend of the drain hose does not matter.
Having found out the connection details, we install a special siphon under the sink, put a hose on it and secure it with a clamp. If you plan to connect directly to the sewer pipe, then purchase the appropriate rubber gasket. We place it at the joint, and then stretch the sleeve. Do not forget to securely fix all elements, since leakage should not appear.
We organize water supply
The second step is connecting the machine to the water supply.In this case, it makes no difference whether it is centralized or independently organized, since the scheme for setting up the water supply is almost the same.
- We take an inlet hose suitable for the existing LG model. Most often it comes included, but sometimes it is purchased separately.
- We hook the curved end to a special tube on the upper part of the rear wall of the case.
- We cut a hole in the water pipe and draw a line through the tee to the machine. You can also make a special branch with a tap.
- We connect the machine to the water supply.
- Tighten the retaining clamps firmly. Plastic nuts, on the contrary, are tightened to the maximum permissible limit and absolutely without the use of tools.
When using tees or water sockets, do not forget about sealants. Remember that even one drop appearing at the joint indicates an unreliable fixation.
We level the body
The machine, already connected to the pipes, can be moved to the wall or placed in a set. But you can’t start the engine yet - you need to level the body of the unit, otherwise the machine will jump, vibrate and hum during the spin cycle. The procedure is almost mandatory, since in modern realities perfectly straight floors are extremely rare.
To install the washer as straight as possible, you will need a building level. Next you need to take several steps:
- place a level on the top cover of the machine;
- Based on the level readings, adjust the legs of the machine;
- check the stability of the case by trying to slightly swing the machine. If the equipment moves when you press the corners, then continue the adjustment;
- fix the nuts.
It is strongly not recommended to operate the machine when it is not level!
Normally, the LG washing machine should not vibrate much. Experts recommend carefully monitoring the vibrations and sounds emanating during the spin cycle, and promptly responding to suspicious “jumps.” It is also recommended to use special anti-vibration attachments on the legs to reduce the likelihood of breakage.
Connecting the machine to the power supply
Electricity is the easiest thing to do: just plug the power cord into a socket and the machine will start working. But there is no need to rush - first you should check whether the existing wiring meets the necessary standards. We are talking about the following requirements:
- presence of grounding; for safety reasons, the washing machine must be grounded;
- inclusion in the RCD circuit. If there is no grounding in the house, it is important to include in the wiring an RCD with a cut-off current of 10 mA (when placing equipment in the bathroom) and 30 mA (in the kitchen and other rooms);
- use of moisture-resistant covers for the socket.
As soon as everything is connected, we start the machine for an “empty” wash. This move will rid the drum of factory lubrication, and at the same time show whether everything was done correctly.
