How to connect a dishwasher to a siphon?
After purchasing a dishwasher, the user is faced with the question of how to quickly and easily connect the dishwasher to the siphon, and even save money. In order not to invest additional funds in altering sewer pipes, connecting to a PMM siphon would be the best option. This is what will be discussed in this article.
Will a regular siphon work?
A standard siphon, which is most often installed on a sink, will not work. It will definitely have to be replaced with a siphon with a fitting, or maybe even two. The scheme for connecting a PMM to a siphon with a similar design is very simple, which attracts many owners to do this work themselves.
Remaking a sewer drain is also easy to do; all you need is a pipe with an additional outlet, as well as a rubber seal. You don’t have to look for any special tools; all the work is done by hand. Insert the sealing collar carefully, because it will prevent sewage from the pipe from getting onto the floor.
Remember! When connecting PMMs and washing machines directly to the sewer, a disgusting smell may appear over time, so it is better to organize such a connection scheme through a non-return valve.
The fact is that bending the hose at a certain height only eliminates the backflow of water. If you use the dishwasher frequently, the water will flush out accumulated dirt. Otherwise, when everything in the hose dries out, you will immediately notice unpleasant odors. A similar problem is sometimes encountered by summer residents who go home for one or two weeks.
Thus, you can connect the “house helper” drain hose to the siphon. It is enough to put the end of the dishwasher drain hose on the side fitting of the siphon, and then secure it with a clamp, the drain is ready. The bending of the hose will be ensured due to the fact that the fitting is located quite high from the floor.
We provide water supply to PMM
To connect water to the dishwasher, it is best to purchase a three-quarter-inch tee tap, through which the water will flow. It is connected instead of the usual connector installed on the mixer. It is necessary to screw the tap-tee between the cold water supply pipe and the hose going to the mixer, while placing linen or any other winding in the thread.
Important! Be sure to turn off the cold water tap before you begin.
Then we screw the dishwasher inlet hose to the outlet of the tee, without applying excessive force, because the nut on the hose is usually plastic. When you turn on the PMM for the first time, be sure to check for water leaks. The problem may not be detected immediately, but after 10-15 minutes, so you will have to observe.
Basic requirements for connecting PMM
When connecting a “home assistant” yourself, do not forget to comply with some requirements. This concerns not only safety precautions, but also operating rules that will make using your dishwasher convenient.
First of all, the dishwasher must be connected to a 220 V network in the panel via an automatic machine. And in general, any water heating devices, be it a boiler or a washing machine, are connected only through automatic machines. And here there are two options:
- through a differential machine;
- through a residual current device (RCD) in conjunction with a machine.
But forget about traffic jams and just automatic machines! Your safety and the safety of your living space depends on this in the event of a break in the wiring. It's not worth the risk.
As for installing the outlet directly under the sink, you should avoid such places. Although it seems more convenient for turning on the power plug. A blockage that causes leakage can lead to a short circuit, and worst of all, a fire. It is not recommended to turn on the dishwasher through an extension cord laid behind the appliance. If this cannot be avoided, then the cord must be laid away from the hoses, removing the electrical wire as far as possible from places of possible water leaks.
When installing, a distance of at least 5 cm must be left between the dishwasher and the wall. This way, the drain and water supply hoses will not be pinched and the water will circulate normally. Otherwise, this may result in an error on the PMM display.
The next requirement for connecting a dishwasher is a flat surface. Uneven floors are one of the causes of water leaks. For example, manufacturers of Electrolux PMMs allow a deviation from the norm of only 2 degrees. You can check the installation of your dishwasher using a building level and, if necessary, tighten the legs. You can twist the legs to the maximum, the main thing is to maintain the level.
Another question that arises when connecting the PMM to the water supply is hot water. The answer to this question must be found in the instructions for your machine. Not many dishwashers can be connected to hot water, so if this operating rule is violated, the equipment may fail much earlier than the warranty period.
Important! Even when connected to a hot water supply, the maximum water heating temperature should be less than 60 degrees. And this is not always the case.
Experts recommend cold water not only because of the temperature of the water, but also because of dirt, which is more common in hot water than in cold water. If hot water supply is provided by having your own gas boiler, then such a connection is economically feasible. Otherwise, you won’t be able to save on electricity.
During the connection and installation of the PMM, it may happen that the length of the inlet hose is not enough. The standard length of this hose is no more than 1.5 meters; there is a need to lengthen it. They do this by extending the original hose, purchasing the required length. This is due to the fact that the original hose may contain protection against leaks, that is, wires are hidden inside that go to a valve, which, if there is a leak, is activated and shuts off the water. Therefore, without cutting the original hose, they add the required length.
