How to clean a top loading washing machine?
Every washing machine needs maintenance. If you do not wash the machine, plaque and mold will appear on the walls of the powder receptacle, debris will accumulate inside, bacteria will settle, and some elements will become covered with scale. In addition, the drain filter will become clogged and the equipment will begin to smell unpleasant. Let's figure out how to properly clean a top-loading washing machine and what detergents to use for better results.
Instructions for cleaning the machine
Housewives are often surprised that a machine that is clean on the outside turns out to be dirty on the inside. At first glance, it is not noticeable that it is high time to wash the washing machine, but upon closer inspection, there is no doubt. Fold back the lid on your “vertical”, move the cuff - on the elastic band and under it you can find mold and accumulations of debris.
Excessively hard tap water has a detrimental effect on the washing machine. Due to the high content of salts, impurities and minerals, scale appears on the heating element and drum.
If you do not clean off the limescale on time, the machine will one day fail.
During washing, detergent particles stick to the walls of the dispenser. If you do not wash the tray, plaque will gradually appear in it, and bacteria and microbes will settle in the compartment for powder and conditioner. Therefore, remove the container from the case - you will definitely find dirt inside.
Remove the top part of the hatch of your “home assistant”; usually a “surprise” also awaits under the cover in the form of dirt and moldy pockets. To clean a top-loading machine, you must:
- take a packet of citric acid;
- Apply lemon juice with a brush to problem areas under the lid, treat the cuff, compartment for powder and conditioner with the product;
- remove the drain filter from the housing, rub it with citric acid, and put it in place;
- treat the surface of the drum with lemon;
- pour 80 grams of lemon powder into the tray;
- close the machine, start a high-temperature washing program (heating the water to 90°C);
- pause the washing machine after about an hour of operation. It is important that the machine remains filled with hot water;
- leave the equipment in this condition for 8-10 hours;
- resume the program, wait for the end of the cycle.
So, with a couple of bags of lemon juice you can wash the inside of the machine. The product will “corrode” scale, remove dirt, destroy mold, and deal with fungus.
It is recommended to clean the washing machine with citric acid approximately once every two to three months.
How can I clean the vertical?
Special compositions have been developed to remove lime deposits from the main components of washing machines and combat other contaminants. The detergent must be effective, safe for human health and not harm some parts of the machine while cleaning others. Professional chemicals include:
- Topperr 3004 – quickly “corrodes” scale. The German product is suitable for washing machines and dishwashers and is inexpensive. It can even cope with a thick layer of limescale. Effectively cleans the “insides” of machines, recommended for use no more than three times a year.
- Schnell Entkalker is a fast-acting anti-scale powder. Produced in Germany.
- Sano AntiKalk for removing plaque and rust. The product is designed to prevent scale formation.It has an antibacterial effect, which is important when cleaning the machine.
- Magic Power is a universal German product that destroys limescale accumulated on the heating element, tank, and drum surface.
- Beckmann is a broad-spectrum drug. The product protects equipment from scale, fights unpleasant odors, and destroys dirt. The composition is good for preventing contamination; it will be ineffective when removing stubborn plaque.
- Filtero 601. A powerful product aimed at corroding scale present on the heating element and other components of the MCA. It has a convenient release form - a two-hundred-gram sachet is designed for one-time use. It is recommended to use it for complex washing of the washing machine, no more than four times a year.
- Russian Doctor TEN and Belarusian Antinakipin. Analogue powders designed exclusively to combat limescale. Can be used to clean washing machines and dishwashers.
In order for the machine to work smoothly for many years, do not forget to take care of it.
Be sure to periodically clean the machine, wash off dirt, and remove scale from the internal elements. After washing, you should leave the lid open to allow the equipment to dry.
