Washing a weed blanket in the washing machine
A fluffy bedspread with high pile brings special warmth and comfort to the interior. How nice it is to wrap yourself in it on a cool evening. There comes a time when the question of cleaning the product arises. Let’s figure out whether it’s allowed to wash a weed blanket in a washing machine, and what nuances you need to know about so as not to damage the item.
Is it possible to use a machine?
All recommendations regarding product care are presented on the label. If the symbols on the blanket's label allow automatic washing, then you can refresh the blanket in the machine. Typically, manufacturers do not prohibit such processing, but they advise choosing delicate programs and strictly observing the temperature regime (water should be heated to a maximum of 30°C).
Before loading into the drum, it is better to put the grass blanket in a special washing bag, this will protect the product from deformation and rolling.
As for detergents, preference should be given to gels for washing delicate fabrics and wool. Unlike dry powders, they quickly dissolve in cold water and are completely rinsed out of long piles. It is forbidden to use chlorine-containing household chemicals for cleaning - it can not only worsen the color of the blanket, but also damage the structure of the fibers, making them more dilapidated and fragile.
You also need to disable the automatic spin function, or set the minimum possible speed (up to 400 per minute). Otherwise, the pile will lose its softness and fluffiness, and the canvas itself will become deformed and stretch unevenly. It is better to remove the wet blanket from the drum, let the water drain and lay the product out to dry on a horizontal surface.
If a voluminous blanket of grass hardly fits into the drum, you should not try to compact it there. Washing will still not bring the desired result. You will have to hand wash the bedspread or take it to the dry cleaner.
Let's clean the item in the traditional way
Hand washing is the most gentle way to care for a long-pile blanket. This makes it easier to control the process and be sure that the bedspread is not in danger of deformation. As with automatic cleaning, it is important to monitor the water temperature. It should not exceed 30°C.
If you wash a fluffy blanket in hot water, you can cause the pile to shrink and the product to deform.
The most convenient way to wash a voluminous bedspread is in the bath. If the dirt is heavy, you can pre-soak the blanket in soapy water for 20-30 minutes. It is important not to rub the fabric too much, otherwise the product will lose its fluffiness. After the main treatment, all that remains is to rinse the pile several times to remove any remaining detergent from the fibers.
You should not wring out a blanket with a high pile. You need to lay it out on a wire rack above the bathtub and let the water drain. Drying is also carried out in a horizontal position - this way the bedspread will retain its original shape.
Dry cleaning a blanket
If it is not possible to organize wet cleaning of the blanket, you can try refreshing it using the dry method. This is the least time- and effort-consuming method. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Shake the blanket well outside - this will help get rid of debris stuck between the lint;
- carry out local cleaning of stains using a soap solution or special household chemicals. You can use “folk” remedies, for example, clean oily areas with a solution of ammonia;
- “comb” the pile with a soft brush or comb for animal hair;
- hang a blanket on the balcony for ventilation. This way it will be saturated with oxygen and will smell fresh.
It is necessary to keep the bedspread clean, shake it out and comb it periodically. It is recommended to thoroughly wash the grass blanket no more than three to four times a year. Then the product will last much longer.
How to fluff a blanket again?
Sometimes after washing and drying a blanket, the grass loses its fluffiness. There is no need to worry about this; you can almost always return the pile to its previous shape. To prevent this, it is important to shake the still wet blanket well after unloading it from the washing machine.
It is also advisable to shake the blanket periodically while drying. If this fails to achieve the initial fluffiness, you will have to use a pet comb or a soft clothes brush. You should carefully comb the pile and give it its original shape.
