Adapters for washing machine to sewer and water

When we mention a water or sewer adapter for an automatic washing machine, we are talking about one of the many ¾-inch plumbing fittings that can potentially fit into a washer's drain or inlet hose. Such plumbing elements may have nothing in common with a washing machine; these are just one of the few options for their use.

The unification of the thread diameter of the fitting for the inlet and drain hose of the washing machine - ¾ inches, gives us the opportunity to choose between dozens of different elements and settle on the one that suits us best in a particular situation. But this, of course, does not mean that the manufacturer makes such adapters specifically for connecting washing machines. However, in order to master the various options for connecting a “home assistant”, we need to study different types of adapters, which is what we will do in the framework of this publication.

Simple transition elements ¾

We can talk for a long time about the different types of transition elements that are suitable for connecting an automatic washing machine. It is most logical to start with simple adapters-connectors that allow you to connect the drain and inlet hoses of the washing machine with pipes, faucets, and other hoses. In this case, the thread diameter of such connectors may not coincide on both sides. Let's give examples.

1. Adapter for automatic washing machine to water, designed to connect two inlet hoses.Why is this necessary? Well, first of all, this is necessary if you have two short hoses from washing machines, but neither one reaches the connection point to the communications. In this case, it is more economical to buy an adapter for pennies and connect two hoses to each other than to buy another extended hose at an exorbitant price. Not suitable for drainage.
   
   
2. An adapter element for an automatic water washing machine, designed to connect the inlet hose to the water pipe. This is the simplest adapter that has both internal (female) and external (male) threads. One thread is for connecting the inlet hose, the other is for screwing the adapter into a pre-prepared branch of a threaded water pipe.
   

2. An adapter element for an automatic washing machine for water or drainage, designed to connect the drain or inlet hose to the outlet of a pipe in which an internal thread is cut. Diameter ¾ by 1. Material nickel-plated brass.
   
3. ¾ saddle adapter for automatic washing machine to water. It is needed in order to organize a quick connection into a branch of the water pipeline without dismantling it or even the slightest alteration. The saddle allows you to connect the inlet hose to the water pipe almost anywhere, which is very convenient, especially when you recently made repairs and don’t want to redo anything else. The saddle is attached to the pipe with bolts, and the rubber seal included in the kit is installed at the insertion point.
   

Important! It may seem that the saddle is an unreliable adapter. In fact, saddles can withstand quite a lot of pressure, especially those made of metal. In some cases up to 10 atmospheres.

5. The simplest ¾-inch adapter with a water filter. This filter adapter is useful for mounting on the inlet hose of a washing machine in order to connect it to a water pipe. The thread is internal on one side and external on the other.. The beauty of this adapter is that it contains a flow filter, which performs a rough cleaning of tap water before it enters the inlet hose and from there into the washing machine. This adapter is not suitable for draining waste water.
   

This is only a small part of the examples that could be given in relation to such adapters, but we will not abuse your attention and overload the article with information, especially since the above examples in practice are most often used when connecting automatic washing machines.

Complex transition elements ¾

Now let's talk about complex adapters. Within the framework of our classification, by complex adapters we mean transition elements that have 3 or more outlets and, accordingly, 3 or more threaded connections. In addition, complex adapters often have taps, filters, valves and other elements that allow solving additional problems when organizing the connection. Let's give examples.

1. Passage tee tap for washing machine. One of the most popular complex adapters, which is used very widely by plumbers and DIYers. Necessary for connecting water to the inlet hose through the mixer. Not suitable for organizing drainage.
   
2. Angle adapter with water tap. Designed to connect the washing machine to the water supply in places where the inlet hose must be connected strictly at an angle for compact placement of communications.This adapter is not intended for draining waste water into the sewer, but it allows you to organize not only a reliable, but also an aesthetic connection between the inlet hose of the washing machine and the water pipe.
   
3. Triple plastic adapter for washer dryer drain hose. A rather unusual adapter that serves to organize the drainage of water into the drain of a washing machine with a drying function. One of its outlets is used to connect the drain hose, the second outlet is for connecting it to the siphon, and the third is thin for connecting to the hose that removes the condensate formed during drying of clothes.
   
4. Adapter-splitter designed to connect two inlet hoses at once. Its beauty is that it provides the connection of two consumers at once to one outlet of a water pipe, that is, two inlet hoses. For example, a washing machine and dishwasher. In the figure on the right you see an example of organizing a connection using this splitter. Such a transition element is not suitable for organizing a drain.
   

Unusual connection options

Finally, we will give a couple of examples of how, with the help of adapters, it is possible to organize a connection to a water supply system where, at first glance, this seems difficult. The first example may not be the most aesthetically pleasing, but it allows you to “hook” an automatic washing machine to the faucet in the bathroom without organizing additional connections.

Its essence is that we install a tee tap on one of the taps of the mixer in the bathroom. Accordingly, we connect one of its outputs to the tap of the mixer, the second output will go to the pipe (more precisely, to a simple adapter), and the third will go to the inlet hose - cheap and cheerful.

By the way, in this case, the insert can be made more accurately if you choose a more suitable mixer and a more compact tee tap.

In the second case, using a tee tap, the master connected the inlet hose of the washing machine along with the toilet cistern to one outlet of the water pipe. The organization of waste water discharge was also thought out and carried out directly into the sewer pipe outlet. As you can see in the picture below, the connection is made using two taps - a double and a tee, although in some cases you can only get by with a tee.

To summarize, we note that connecting an automatic washing machine to the water supply and sewerage is plumbing work, and as for any plumbing work, this requires ordinary plumbing materials: adapters of simple and complex designs. If you are going to connect the washing machine yourself, you need to find out about the existence of different types of adapters to make it easier to choose the most appropriate option for such a connection.
