Should I use a spin cycle when washing jeans in a washing machine?
Many modern washing machines have a separate mode for cleaning denim items, which greatly simplifies the care of products made from this material. If there is no special working cycle, then most often housewives are forced to look for information about whether jeans can be wrung out in a washing machine. On the one hand, jeans are a fairly strong material that is difficult to damage, but on the other hand, intense spinning in the “home assistant” can ruin the jeans, which is why users are simply afraid to activate this function. Let's figure out whether this mode can be used for processing denim products.
Is it dangerous to do push-ups?
Unfortunately, there is no clear answer, given how different gins are sold in stores today. If the clothes have various decorative elements, for example, rhinestones, rivets, lace, mesh and other decorations, then it is better to do without spinning, so as not to damage the item. In this case, the only danger is long ironing to avoid the formation of serious creases.
As a last resort, you can place the jeans in a washing bag and turn on the spin cycle at 400 rpm.
Stretch jeans should only be wrung out with your own hands, because the machine can deform the clothes so much that the item becomes several sizes larger at once. You should also avoid squeezing items with decorative cuts, as this can seriously damage them, turning a small cut into a huge hole. If you are still going to press regular jeans without decorative elements and cuts, then you should do this at a speed of no more than 800 rpm.
Optimal temperature for washing
It is believed that it is safest to wash gins at a temperature of 30-35 degrees Celsius, because only this way the processing will not damage things, increasing their size. There is only one downside to this temperature regime - in lukewarm water some of the serious contaminants may not be washed off. Because of this, difficult stains should first be washed with your own hands, and only then reprocessed in the washing machine.
The higher the temperature, the greater the chance of clothing shrinking.
To save time, you can try increasing the washing temperature to 40 degrees or more, but you should do this at your own peril and risk. Never wash stretch trousers at high temperatures, as they will stretch and lose their texture.
Which tool should I use?
For washing and spinning jeans, it is not washing powders that are most suitable, but gels and other liquid household chemicals for washing, because they are better washed out of coarse types of fabric, and also do not leave behind white stains. Moreover, washing with gel can show better results, since gel detergents penetrate the fabric fibers better than powder detergents.
It is also permissible to use household chemicals to clean wool and silk, as they provide delicate care for things. Such detergents perfectly wash rough denim, preventing it from starting to fade or lose size as a result of shrinkage. But the best choice is to buy specialized detergents for denim.
Another advantage of using gels is that they leave clothes soft and pleasant to the touch, so there is no need to use softening fabric conditioner.
If, for some reason, gels and liquid household chemicals are not suitable for you, then when purchasing washing powder, try to choose products from a trusted brand. You can take a powder suitable for washing colored items, as its special shape prevents the bright denim material from fading. In this situation, you will have to additionally purchase a conditioner that can soften clothes after using washing powder.
How to remove moisture from jeans correctly
It is most convenient to wash gins in the summer, because in the warm season they can be dried in the fresh air in the shade. You should not hang things in the sun, as this will cause them to fade. You should always turn things inside out so that they do not lose their brightness of color, plus they do not get dirty on the front side if they accidentally fall to the ground, or if dust from the wind gets on them.
During the cold season, items made from denim can only be dried in a warm room, because in conditions of high humidity, things simply cannot dry. It is also important that in sub-zero temperatures, jeans can freeze and break, which is why the product can only be thrown away.
After spinning, the items should be shaken, slightly stretched in length and width, and then carefully straightened. Clothespins should be attached exclusively to the belt. If there are no clothespins in the house, then it is permissible to dry the item on hangers with built-in clothespins - this way the item will dry out and not become wrinkled.
The less synthetics in a garment, the slower it will dry - thick jeans can take up to two days to dry.
Djinns can also be hung on a rope. The downside is that in this way the drying process will take more time, because the water will flow to the hips and pockets, where the fabric is denser and more multi-layered. Under no circumstances throw denim items over a rope, because this will cause a large wrinkle to appear on the item, which will be very difficult to iron. You should also not dry denim on a radiator in the house, because this can damage both clothes and radiators - creases will form on the former, it will become deformed and will be too dry, and stains will simply appear on the latter.
Recommendations for caring for jeans
Finally, we will list a few recommendations that will allow you to properly wash and press your jeans in the “home assistant”. Memorize them or print them for convenience.
- Do not soak light-colored denim trousers with decorative metal elements in the washing machine, as such accessories oxidize very quickly and stain the product.
- Never wash jeans together with items made from other materials, and never wash light jeans together with dark ones.
- Wash stubborn stains and serious dirt first by hand, and only then place them in the washing machine. The machine can handle any dirt, but it will take time, and the longer the washing and spinning continues, the more the clothes can become deformed.
- Immediately after purchasing a new denim item, it should be washed in SM without powder or gel - the item is already clean, but this will remove excess dye and chemical residues from the clothing.
- Always remove the belt from your trousers, as washing in a machine can damage it, and leather with products can clog the key components of the “home assistant”.
- To make dark denim richer, you can add vinegar during hand rinsing, which can protect the item from fading.
- To iron denim well, just slightly dampen the item while ironing.
- Don't forget to check your clothing pockets before washing - money, paper clips, keys and many other small items can damage the washing machine.
- Be sure to turn your jeans inside out if they have embroidery, mesh, lace or other decorative elements, or better yet, place the item in a special laundry bag.
- Take into account the maximum permissible weight of the laundry in cm, do not overload the drum with jeans, which are best not washed more than 5 pieces at a time.
Follow the tips above to ensure your items are always in tip-top condition.
