Delayed start in the washing machine
Modern washing machines are often equipped with a timer function, that is, the ability to delay the start of a program. This is convenient because you can guess the start time and, accordingly, the end time of the wash so that you don’t have to sit at the machine and wait, but come straight to the ready-washed laundry. For example, set a timer before bed so that when the owner wakes up, the machine has already done everything. Let's figure out how delayed start works in a washing machine and what you need to know about it.
Delayed start activation
Many people don’t even know if their machine is equipped with this function. The easiest way to find out is to look at the user manual, which lists all the capabilities of the SM. If the instructions are lost, you can simply carefully inspect the control panel. If you find an icon that resembles a clock, it means your machine can delay start.
The timer mode starts as follows:
- load things into the drum and close the hatch door tightly;
- Place your detergents (powder, conditioner, etc.) in the dispenser;
- set the desired washing program and adjust the parameters if necessary (temperature, spin speed);
- find the button with the image of a clock or dial;
- Press the key several times while observing the information on the display.
By pressing the button, you set the delay time. On some washing machines, stopping at 5:00 means the cycle will automatically start after 5 hours. In other models, the timer is made slightly differently and, for example, a delay of 5 hours means that the selected program will end after this time.
Important! After selecting the duration of the delay, you need to press the “Start” button. As soon as you turn on the timer, the display will count down the time until the program starts or ends.
If you want to cancel the delay, press Start/Stop and then press the dial key until the time disappears from the screen.
The delay wash function is extremely useful for those who plan their time minute by minute. As mentioned above, the option allows you to wash things without even being at home. The timer may also be useful for those whose electricity bills depend on the time of day and are cheaper at night.
Why housewives rarely use delayed start
Despite the obvious conveniences, delayed start is also associated with some disadvantages, which, in the opinion of many housewives, outweigh the advantages and lead to the fact that the function is practically not used in everyday life or not used at all. There are four main factors.
- Safety. Or rather, its absence. Not every housewife will decide to leave the machine unattended and go on business, postponing the laundry just for the time when she is busy with something else. No one is immune from accidents during the operation of the SM, but minimizing and eliminating their consequences is only possible if measures are taken in time, and not while being in the middle of nowhere.
- It’s already unsafe for the machine itself. Even if you live in a private house, without neighbors, and the machine is in a separate laundry room, it is still unsafe to leave it unattended. If the lights are turned off during operation, this is not so bad, but when the water is turned off and the SM continues to run idle, this is fraught with breakdowns and expensive repairs.
- Night noise.Few people think that a few dollars saved on a nightly rate can make up for the fact that the washing machine can make very loud noises during the night, especially when it comes to spinning. Isn't it easier to do laundry without a timer before bed?
- Complexity. Indeed, most of the functions in the washing machine are intuitive. I pressed it there, twisted it there, adjusted it there, and voila. But to understand the timer function, you need to spend time and effort, and then remember it all, reproduce it and not confuse it. A whole page in the instructions is devoted to setting up a delayed start. But SM was created to simplify life, not complicate it.
However, the delayed start function is appearing in more and more models, so there will certainly be those who will appreciate it and use it regularly.
