How to open the door of an Electrolux washing machine?

If, after finishing the wash, you cannot open the Electrolux washing machine, excitement turns into panic. Clothes remain wet in the drum, the next load is not loaded, planned tasks are postponed, and time is wasted. But there is no reason to worry - the situation with a locked hatch is often not serious and can be easily resolved. It is enough to determine the cause of the delay and eliminate it. We suggest you act strictly according to the instructions.

What prevents you from unlocking the car?

The Electrolux washing machine remains locked after washing for several reasons. It is not always the lock that is the problem; quite often completely different systems and components are to blame for the delay. So, at least five problems can lead to a door not opening.

1. Failed UBL. The hatch locking device on Electrolux rarely breaks down. As a rule, the matter is in the rush of users who are in a hurry to open the machine. It is important to remember that the electronic lock does not work immediately after the end of the cycle - it needs at least 1-3 minutes. During this time, the system will check whether the water has drained, whether the engine is turned off, and whether it is safe to unlock the mechanism. It is advisable to wait a little longer and press the handle again.
2. The technical error. Probably, the voltage suddenly “jumped” during washing, the power supply was turned off, or there was a problem with water pressure. In such a situation, the control board, sensitive to external vibrations, could “freeze.” In simple words, a “glitch” occurred in the system, the specified algorithm went wrong, the module did not send a signal to remove the lock.
3. Broken lock. If handled carelessly or abruptly slamming or opening, the locking mechanism could be damaged.It is difficult to repair a structure; it is faster and cheaper to replace it with a new one.
4. Clogged drain. If the drainage is unable to pump water out of the tank, the drum will remain full and the control board will not allow the hatch to be opened for safety reasons.
5. Child lock activated. Many modern Electrolux washing machines offer an optional door lock, activated via a button on the dashboard. Perhaps the option was launched and not cancelled.

Problems with the UBL, lock and drain, as well as the activation of the “Child Lock” option prevent the hatch from opening on the Electrolux.

The washing machine is not always locked due to serious problems - more often it is a matter of simple inattention or haste. Most of the listed problems can be fixed independently, focusing on logic and factory instructions. First, we determine the cause of the delay and assess its scale.

Delay in opening at the end of the program

Electrolux “braking” after completing a cycle is not a reason to panic. First of all, you need to understand whether the problem is serious. In addition to mechanical locking, washing machines are equipped with an electronic lock, which operates automatically, but not immediately. Usually the system needs 1-5 minutes to verify that the drain has occurred and give the go-ahead to open the equipment.

If the measured time has passed and the machine remains locked, then we exclude the second reason - a technical failure of the system. Often UBL slows down due to the board freezing. The electronic unit could react to a sudden voltage drop or a second switching off of the light - the program stalled and did not continue as usual. In such a situation, a reboot will help: just turn off the power to the equipment for 15-30 minutes and start it again. Most likely, the error will be reset and the mechanism will be unlocked.

The UBL turns off automatically 1-3 minutes after the wash is completed!

It's another matter if the machine freezes with a full tank. It is useless to wait in such a situation - it is necessary to urgently look for the reason for the failed drain. The problem is likely larger and will require a comprehensive inspection followed by repairs. You will have to forcefully open the machine and only after certain preparation.

Getting rid of water

If the machine stops with a full tank and does not start the pump within 2-3 minutes, it means that it needs to be “helped”. First, we try to activate water pumping in automatic mode by turning on the “Drain”, “Spin” or “Rinse” program. At the end of the cycle, the washer should be empty.

It’s worse if the automatic drain does not work, since the washing machine does not respond to the user’s commands or, at the end of the activated cycle, cannot pump out water again. In the first case, a reboot is needed, in the second, cleaning the drain hose or forcibly emptying the drum through a garbage filter.

As for forcing the door to open, there are two options:

• using a specially provided emergency rope;
• manually through the top cover.

It is faster and easier to operate through a special emergency rope. It is found on every Electrolux and is located at the bottom of the case next to the drain filter. It is difficult not to notice the cord - the harness has a striking red or orange tint. To activate it, you need to pull the loop provided by the manufacturer.

If you can’t find the tourniquet, you’ll have to act differently:

• turn off the power to the washing machine;
• unscrew the top cover;
• tilt the body back and lean it against the wall;
• wait for the drum to “move away” from the front panel;
• stick your hand through the gap formed and feel for the UBL;
• find the tongue and slide it, opening the hatch.

Before any forced manipulation, it is recommended to first study the instructions. For some Electrolux models, individual emergency circuits are provided to drain water and disable electronic locking. This way you can reduce risks and make the task easier.

The unlocking mechanism is broken

Often the cause of an unyielding door is a faulty lock. Especially after persistent attempts to “open” the machine yourself. In any case, the procedure will change radically:

• we find a rope up to 5 mm thick and a length exceeding the diameter of the hatch by at least 25 cm;
• we insert the cord into the gap between the body and the door (sometimes you need a screwdriver to push the string inside);
• pull both ends;
• We wait for the click with which the mechanism gives in.

A spoon will help you open the lock. It is enough to take the device and use the flat handle to try to “climb” into the gap. If you can move the tongue, the door will open.
