LG dryer error codes
Why do modern dryers have a self-diagnosis system? In the event of a breakdown, the intelligence immediately detects the failure, stops the cycle and notifies the user of the problem by displaying a fault code. All errors in LG dryers are explained in the instructions for the equipment. Let's take a closer look at what each symbol combination means.
Let's decipher digital and alphabetic values
It is important to correctly decipher the error code issued by the dryer. Take a look at the instructions, it describes all the combinations stored in the memory of the self-diagnosis system. Having found out what problem the machine is reporting, you can quickly fix the problem.
The instructions for the LG dryer describe all the error codes that the device can produce.
Let's figure out what problems the dryer may indicate:
- d80, d90 or d95 - these errors indicate problems with air removal from the dryer; you need to check the exhaust system;
- FO (Filter Out) – code indicates incorrect installation of the fluff filter;
- PS – notifies you if the voltage in the electrical network does not meet the standard parameters. The machine will stop working to avoid damage to the electronics;
- dE – informs about incorrect operation of the door switch;
- tE1 or tE2 – errors indicate a thermistor failure;
- tE3 – indicates an error in the operation of the thermistor; you will have to test the semiconductor with a multimeter;
- E13 - this designation indicates a clogged drain hose. Also, the reason may be that the water in the crankcase freezes;
- nP – notifies that there is no voltage, the dryer cannot start working, since power is not supplied from the mains;
- HS – code indicates incorrect operation of the humidity sensor;
- Add water – problem with water supply.
Having found out what problem the intellect is reporting, you can begin to repair the dryer. Sometimes rebooting the equipment helps clear the error. However, this will only be advisable in the event of a one-time system failure. If there really is a malfunction, then only eliminating the problem will help restore the operation of the dryer.
Why does my dryer suddenly turn off?
A typical problem with LG dryers is a sudden shutdown of the machine. Often the reason is not in the device itself, but in external factors. The issue may be:
- faulty socket;
- lack of voltage in the electrical network;
- errors made during installation and connection of the dryer.
First you need to make sure that the machine is “powered” correctly. Do not use extension cords or adapters - the dryer must be plugged directly into an outlet. In this case, the voltage at the power point should be at the level of 200-240 Volts.
To power drying equipment, it is advisable to lay individual wiring with the required cable cross-section.
The next reason for the dryer to suddenly turn off is incorrect voltage in the network. It may be low, or, conversely, too high. To protect the electronics of the machine, the intelligence forcibly stops the operation of the device.
Current surges in the network are dangerous for the dryer. Sudden surges can lead to failure of the control module. Therefore, it is recommended to connect the dryer through a voltage stabilizer, which will protect the “home assistant”.
Finally, the problem may be with the outlet itself. How can I check this? Connect another electrical appliance, such as a hair dryer or kettle, to the power point.Observe the operation of household appliances.
If the shutdown occurred for the first time, it may be due to a short-term system failure. Try simply rebooting the device. Unplug the dryer's power cord from the outlet, wait half an hour, and turn on the machine. Has the fault code returned? This means that everything is fine with the device, the reason was really a random error.
Shutdown due to lack of heat
Why else would the dryer turn off? If the temperature required for drying clothes is not reached within a certain time, the “brain” detects a problem and stops the machine. The temperature regime may be disrupted due to:
- incorrect operation of the heating element;
- temperature sensor failure;
- violations of condensate drainage;
- fan malfunction;
- failure of the control module;
- activation of the overheating protection system.
In this case, the dryer will have to be repaired. If the washing machine is new and still under warranty, you should not try to fix it yourself. Immediately call a specialist from the LG service center, the technicians will take the device for diagnostics and fix the problem free of charge.
If the warranty period has long expired, you can try to repair the dryer yourself. The error code issued by the device will narrow down the range of possible breakdowns. All you have to do is check the possible “culprits” and replace the elements.
How to check the dryer and find the cause of the breakdown
A complete diagnosis of the device will help you understand why the dryer is not working correctly. The machine parts are tested with a special device – a multimeter. You will also need to have Phillips and minus screwdrivers on hand - they will be useful for disassembling the case.
Be sure to turn off the power to the dryer before starting diagnostics.
Possible breakdowns are eliminated one after another.It is recommended to check the thermostat first. Algorithm of actions:
- remove the back wall of the SM housing by unscrewing the bolts holding it;
- find the temperature sensor (the thermostat is oval-shaped and located near the heating fan);
- unhook all the wires from the thermistor (which connect it to the heating element);
- measure the resistance of the temperature sensor with a multimeter.
How is resistance measured? The ohmmeter is switched to the appropriate mode, after which its probes are applied to the thermistor contacts (those places from which the wires were unhooked). The device should display “0”. If the tester displays a value close to zero, this indicates that the correct current is flowing through the temperature sensor.
Replacing the thermistor will be required in cases where the multimeter produces a value much greater than zero or tending to infinity. The temperature sensor cannot be repaired. You will have to buy and install a new element.
The electronic module of the dryer is also checked with a multimeter. Sequencing:
- remove the top cover of the machine;
- find the main control unit (this is a small board with many wires connected to it);
- inspect the board for defects: swelling, traces of soot;
- switch the tester to ohmmeter mode;
- measure the resistance between the semiconductors responsible for the operation of the heating element (for most LG models these are pins 5 and 6);
- test all other pins to make sure the control module is working properly.
If there is no resistance between the contacts, or, on the contrary, the value tends to infinity, then the operation of the module is disrupted. The control board will need repair. It may consist of:
- cleaning contacts and tracks;
- replacing semiconductors.
In extreme cases, the entire module is changed. However, usually a simple stripping of the leads or soldering of the tracks helps solve the problem. Without experience working with electronics, it is better not to get into the “brain” of the dryer, but to entrust the matter to specialists.
If the main dryer unit, heating element and thermostat are fully operational, check the dryer for leaks. First of all, inspect the hatch cuff. If the seal has cracks or other obvious defects, replace the rubber.
Also check the quality of the seal. Water must be collected inside the system, in a special container for condensate. If moisture leaves the dryer, the “brain”, having detected this, will immediately turn off the machine.
Condensate drainage is disrupted when the fluff filter is clogged. If your dryer suddenly shuts down, check to make sure the container is not clogged with debris. This problem is usually accompanied by an FO error. The filter element should be cleaned after each use of the SM, as a lot of dust collects in it.
