Error code Fd in Haier washing machines and dryers
Modern technology is capable of identifying what breakdowns have occurred in the system and notifying users about them. Error code Fd in Haier washing machines and dryers can be called one of the main ones. What to do if such a code appears on the display? Let's figure out how to fix the problem and return the washing machine to working capacity.
Let's decipher the Fd code
Modern washing machines are equipped with a self-diagnosis system for faults. Having noticed a failure, they instantly respond to it and notify users about the failure. Error code Fd informs about problems with the drying heating element. Therefore, if you notice this code on the display, immediately turn off the power to the device and under no circumstances touch the body - this will be unsafe.
Another possible cause of the error is a malfunction of the control module. In any case, you will have to turn off the power to the machine, being careful not to touch the body. Let the washer sit for 15-20 minutes, then plug it back in. If the problem persists, then you will have to check the dryer heating element and its wiring.
This breakdown is not considered minor, so it is better to seek help from service center specialists, especially if the warranty period has not expired. If the warranty has already expired, you can proceed with self-diagnosis. During the process, it is important to follow safety rules so as not to harm yourself or the equipment.
Checking the heating element of a Haier washer-dryer
You can diagnose a Haier washing machine that is giving an Fd error yourself. First of all, you need to inspect the drying heating element. The heating element is checked in three ways:
- to ring;
- for breakdown;
- by load current.
Before starting work, be sure to turn off the power to the washer-dryer. To check the drying heating element, you need to remove the element from the system. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Unscrew the bolts holding the top panel of the washing machine;
- remove the lid to the side;
- find the heating chamber and open it;
- disconnect the contacts of the heating element;
- remove the screw holding the heating element;
- take out the heating element.
If you are disassembling the washing machine for the first time, be sure to read the instructions for the equipment. The location of the main components of the system is indicated there. This way you can understand where to look for the heating element on a Haier machine with a drying function.
To check the drying heating element, you will need a special device - a multimeter.
First of all, it is recommended to ring the heater. To do this, you need to switch the multimeter to resistance measurement mode. The tester probes are applied to the corresponding contacts of the heating element.
Next, look at the tester screen. If the heating element is working properly, the multimeter display will display a value within several tens of ohms (from 20 to 40 ohms, depending on the power of the heating element). In this case, the device itself will make a characteristic sound. When during the test everything is quiet and the display shows 0 or 1, we can talk about the heater breaking down and the need to replace it.
The next stage is checking the heating element for breakdown. The multimeter remains in resistance measurement mode, and it should be set to the highest possible range, ideally 200 megohms. The further algorithm of actions will be as follows:
- Apply one multimeter probe to the heater contact, the second to the heating element body;
- evaluate the readings on the tester display.
A working heater will not give any readings on the multimeter, that is, the original value on the display will not change.If the tester displays some numbers on the screen, we can talk about a breakdown of the heating element.
When checking the heating element for breakdown, you should take into account an important nuance - it needs to be heated before the procedure. To do this, you need to connect the part to the power supply for 5-8 seconds (using a power cord with two terminals) or simply put it in hot water (without immersing the contacts themselves). When the element becomes warm, you can use a multimeter.
It often happens that a “cold” heating element does not show a breakdown. But when checking the warm element with a multimeter, a current leakage into the housing is detected. Therefore, it is so important not to neglect the rule of “heating the part.”
If a breakdown is detected in the heating element, the heating element will have to be replaced to eliminate the error.
The third diagnostic method is to check the heating element by current load. To find out how much current the heater should normally “consume”, you will have to remember the formula P=IxU, where:
- P – power (W);
- I – current (A);
- U – voltage (V).
That is, the current consumption can be calculated by dividing the power indicator of the element by the voltage value. For example, checking a heating element for 1900 Watt, we get the following number: 1900/220 = 8 Amperes.
Next, using a multimeter, we check whether the standard readings correspond to the actual ones, for this:
- reconnect one 20 Amp multimeter probe;
- Connect the power cord terminal to one contact of the heating element, and to the second - a terminal with a clamp on the reverse side;
- connect the clamp to one multimeter probe;
- Connect the other probe of the tester to the network terminal;
- turn the multimeter lever to the “AC, 20 Amp” position;
- evaluate the readings on the device screen.
Normally, a heating element with a power of 1900 Watts should consume a current within 8 Amperes.If the readings on the multimeter display are very different, the heating element will have to be changed.
If the drying heating element has consistently withstood all three stages of testing, inspect whether the wires supplying it are damaged. When everything is in order with this, you will have to rule out a breakdown of the main control module of the washing machine. It is better to entrust board diagnostics to specialists.
