Error F27 in Whirlpool washing machine
The reliability of the Whirlpool washing machine has been proven in practice over decades of trouble-free service. Owners of household appliances from this brand describe them as durable and easy to use. But troubles can happen with any mechanism: it can fail. “Smart” units tell owners what kind of malfunction is interfering with work. And the technicians, knowing the cause of the failure, can easily decide what to do in a given situation, for example, with error F27.
What triggered the F27 code?
If the “F27” icon is displayed on the control panel of the Whirlpool washing machine, this indicates a breakdown of the electric motor. Error F27 on the display means that it only rotates in one direction. The malfunction occurs due to a burnt-out engine reverse relay in the control module.
It is difficult for an untrained person and even a novice technician to troubleshoot the unit’s operation on their own. To correct the situation, you need professional help. To save on electric motor repairs, the owner of the machine can remove the broken module from the washing machine body with his own hands. Whirlpool and take it to a repair shop.
Removing the control module
If fault code F27 lights up on the control panel, you can remove the board and check for mechanical damage, burning or signs of oxidation. To remove a part, you must:
- disconnect the device from the power supply;
- shut off the water supply hose;
- Unscrew the screws on the rear panel and lift the top cover (by sliding it towards the front wall of the case);
- remove the detergent dispenser by pressing the latch in the center of the rinse aid compartment;
- Unscrew the screws located at the edges of the control panel. Raise the part;
Important! At this stage, it is advisable to take photographs of the wiring and connectors of the washing machine.
- disconnect chips with a huge number of wires;
- remove the unit cover by unfastening the latch.
Error F27 does not mean that the engine reverse relay is burned out. The cause of the breakdown may be damaged contacts or damage to the track. Many people can cope with the problem on their own using a soldering iron. If inspection of the faulty part does not produce results, and it was not possible to determine the cause of the breakdown, you should contact a professional technician along with the removed board.
Can I repair the control board myself?
A person who does not have special knowledge can cope with minor malfunctions in the operation of the control board. Most often, owners of Whirlpool equipment have to cope with the following problems:
- sensor failure. Often occurs due to the fact that the mode adjustment knob becomes clogged. Fixing the malfunction is easy: just disassemble and clean the regulator;
- Mechanical cleaning also helps when carbon deposits appear on the power filter, as well as when the hatch lock breaks due to detergent residues;
- You can try to fix the startup failure by disassembling the housing and tightening the pulley, and with it the belt;
- burnt out resistors also need to be replaced. A tester helps check them for serviceability. The resistance of the first-order boards should be 0 Ohm with an overload of 2 A. The maximum permissible overload range for the second-order boards is 3–5 A. If the tester gives other indicators, the resistors should be resoldered.
Resetting error F27 and fixing the problem yourself can be done by a person who understands technology. You can save money on relay repairs by removing the board and giving it to a technician. But if you don’t have the necessary skills, then it’s better to entrust the entire repair process to a professional.
