Error E52 in an Electrolux washing machine
Nowadays, household appliances have become so complex and multifunctional that it is simply impossible to keep in mind all the errors that faulty equipment can produce. This is why it is so important to keep the instructions handy. Error E52 in an Electrolux washing machine informs the user that there is a problem in the tachogenerator circuit. This usually means that the control module does not receive data about the current engine speed, so it urgently turns off the engine. How to fix this at home?
First, let's find a tachometer
If fault code E52 appears on the display, then you will have to do a partial disassembly of the “home assistant” yourself. For Electrolux brand washing machines with a commutator motor, the tachogenerator is located on the rotating shaft of the electric motor. Therefore, first of all, you need to remove some of the parts from the washer to gain free access to the sensor. What should I do for this?
- Unscrew all the fasteners on the rear panel of the housing SM.
- Remove it and put it aside temporarily.
- Remove the drive belt to reveal the tachometer.
Before any repair of household appliances, be sure to disconnect them from the power supply and water supply.
The tachoneger looks like a small iron ring on a shaft. You need to carefully remove the entire motor, because it is not easy to isolate the sensor from the engine without removing the entire assembly. If you are not sure that you can remove the electric motor with your own hands, then you should seek help from service center specialists so as not to accidentally damage the washing machine even more.
Is the sensor burned out?
If you decide to do the repair yourself, you will first need to take some photos of the wiring so that you have an example of the connections that will be needed during reassembly. After this, you can begin dismantling.
- For convenience, approach the machine from the back.
- Remove all bolts securing the electric motor.
- Remove the wiring from the part being removed.
- Rock the motor slightly and then pull it towards you to remove it from its seat.
Keep in mind when working that the engine is very heavy, so be prepared when removing it so as not to accidentally drop and damage the entire assembly.
When the engine is removed, you need to carefully examine the tachogenerator, wiring and mountings. Sometimes, due to strong vibration during spinning, the contacts move away and the fasteners become loose. If this is really the problem, then fixing everything is very simple - you just need to tighten the terminals harder and securely fasten the clamps.
If visually everything is in order, then you need to use a multimeter for detailed diagnostics. To begin, the tester should be activated in resistance measurement mode, connect the device probes to the contacts and evaluate the results obtained. If the multimeter shows readings of 60-70 ohms, then the node is normal.
Additionally, you can measure the current produced by the tachogenerator. To do this, you need to set the tester to voltage mode, connect the probes to the contacts and try to accelerate the motor by hand. The sensor is working if the multimeter shows a figure of about 0.2 Volts.
How to replace a faulty part?
When fault code E52 appears on the washing machine display, you need to mentally prepare for the fact that the tachogenerator will have to be replaced. The fact is that it cannot be repaired, you can only purchase a new one and install it in place of the old one. To do this, it is enough to disconnect the damaged unit, which is easy to do, since all the connectors are easy to detach, and they themselves are located in the same place as the other connectors on the electric motor.
To dismantle you only need a thin flathead screwdriver. When the tachometer is removed, remove the top cover from it - it can be secured either with small bolts or latches.
Now all that remains is to install the new sensor on the motor, and then reassemble the CM according to our instructions. Don’t forget to take photos of the process for yourself so you don’t get confused about what went where. Be sure to check the tachogenerator and all connections with a multimeter - this will ensure that the replacement was successful.
