What triggered the code?

According to the instructions, fault code E42 on Hansa washing machines stands for “the hatch does not close or does not lock.” Several breakdowns, both mechanical and electronic, can lead to problems with the lock. More often the user encounters the following problems:

the door is not pressed tightly against the body, the lock does not close;

When closing the door, you should hear a click - the sound of a mechanical lock operating.

locking does not occur because the hatch locking device is broken;
the electronic component of the UBL is faulty;
The connection between the UBL and the control board is lost (the corresponding semiconductor or “track” has burned out).

It is impossible to immediately understand why the machine displays error E42. To determine the location of the breakdown, you will have to sequentially check each probable cause. We start diagnostics with the mechanical lock, continue with the UBL and end with the control board.

The door hook does not reach the lock

Error E42 does not always indicate serious damage. This is probably due to simple user inattention - the door is not locked tightly. This happens if a foreign object is stuck between the body and the hatch, for example, laundry that has fallen out of the drum.To correct the situation, just carefully inspect the washing machine and remove all interfering things.

Sometimes the cuff prevents the hatch from closing tightly. There are two options here:

the sealing rubber is torn and part of it gets between the body and the door, preventing the drum from closing;
a new cuff was installed.

A new cuff interferes if the elastic was chosen incorrectly or poorly installed. In any case, repeated repairs are required: find a new seal or adjust its position. Sometimes, to clear the error, it is enough to sand the edges of the “ring”, removing all protrusions and burrs.

Often the problem is in the lock. In this case, prerequisites arise: the door begins to close every once in a while and requires “force” - pressing down with a foot or hand. Over time, the locking mechanism breaks down more, the hatch does not close at all, and the self-diagnosis system displays E42. The instructions on what to do in this case are quite simple: examine the “hook” on the lock. Normally, this element should be spring-loaded and move with effort. If the part has shifted, weakened or lost its spring, then the door will have to be disassembled and repaired.

Problems with the lock

In a third of cases where error E42 appears on a Hansa washing machine, the UBL is “to blame.” The hatch blocking device does not work, the board does not fix the tightness of the drum and, for safety reasons, does not allow the cycle to start. The blocker fails for three reasons:

problems with the electrical part, the UBL does not “ring”;
the mechanics are faulty, the components of the UBL are damaged;
The wiring leading from the blocker to the control board is damaged.

Sometimes it's a matter of sloppy repairs. When disassembling a Hansa washing machine, inexperienced technicians tear off the wiring connected to the UBL, which invariably leads to an error. It’s better not to take risks, but to contact trusted specialists. UBL diagnostics begins by ringing the part with a multimeter:

on the right side of the hatch, find a hole and two screws holding the blocker;
unscrew the fasteners;
bend the cuff, tucking it into the drum;
pull out the UBL through the slot;
disconnect the wiring connected to the device;
measure the resistance with a multimeter.

To eliminate problems with both the mechanical and electrical parts of the UBL, it is necessary to replace the device. Attempts to repair the blocker are useless - repairing will be more expensive and will take more time. The main thing is when buying a new device, focus on the Hansa serial number and choose only the original. If everything is “clean” with the UBL, lock and hatch, then there is only one option left - failure of the control board.
