Error E30 in an Electrolux washing machine
Self-diagnosis in Electrolux washing machines is not able to unambiguously determine the source of the malfunction. The combination displayed on the display can indicate a dozen problems of different scale and nature. To find a specific location, you need to check all possible options one by one. A striking example is error E30 on a washing machine. What is this problem and how can I fix it?
Service test
The fact is that Electrolux first produces an error code common to several breakdowns, but the combination can be clarified through a service test. The specific location of the fault will not be reflected, but the search field will be significantly narrowed. To get into testing mode, you must follow the following instructions:
- turn off the machine from the power supply;
- simultaneously press the “START/PAUSE” button and the adjacent “OPTION” button, without releasing the keys for 2-5 seconds (until the LEDs on the dashboard start flashing).
To exit the service test mode, you need to turn off, turn on and turn off the washing machine.
As soon as the lights start to glow, the test mode will start. This is an automatic self-test program for the unit, during which the system looks for possible problems in two stages, simplifying the process of solving the problem. At the first stage, the operation of buttons and LEDs is assessed, at the second stage they are read error codes on specific details. In the latter case, the direction of the diagnosis can be controlled by turning the gear selector clockwise.
If error E30 occurs, the programmer should be moved to the sixth “position”.The heater and solenoid valve of the washing machine are “attached” to it, and if there is a problem with them, the system will issue the corresponding code. If this happens, then the situation must be corrected by a comprehensive check of the heating element.
Detailed heater check
There is only one answer to what to do if you suspect a heating element is broken - “ring” the heater with a multimeter. But before setting up the tester and starting measurements, you need to know exactly the nominal resistance of the element. To do this, remember the mathematics and calculate the indicator using the formula R= U²/P, where:
- U is the voltage at which the heater operates, in Russian realities it is constant - 220 Volts;
- P is the power of the existing heating element. Everyone has a different meaning, so we take out the user manual for the washing machine and look for the corresponding parameter. If there are no instructions, then go to the Internet by entering a query with the serial number of the washing machine into the search bar.
For example, our heater’s rated power is 1800 W, and the network voltage is, accordingly, 220 W. Then the completed formula will look like this: R=220²/1800=26.8 Ohm. We remember the resulting value and proceed to direct testing with a multimeter.
Before testing the heating element, you must disconnect the machine from the power supply.
- Disconnect the wiring from the heater.
- Set the multimeter to “Resistance” mode.
- Set the selector to 200 Ohm.
- We apply the tester probes to the terminals on the water heater.
- We evaluate how close the measurement shown by the device is to the previously calculated figure.
If the nominal resistance is close to the result from the formula, then the part is serviceable. In cases where “1” is displayed on the display, even repairs will not help - only a full replacement of the heating element.With “0” the situation is similar to “1”, since a short circuit has occurred and further operation of the heater is unacceptable.
You should not focus on the external integrity of the element - often a dielectric leaks out of the “spiral”, which is extremely dangerous to human health. It is better to immediately check the case for breakdown by switching the multimeter to the “Buzzer” mode.. If you hear a squeak after applying one of the probes to the body, then there is no point in trying to repair the heating element - an urgent replacement is necessary.
