Error E09 for a Bosch dishwasher
If error E09 appears in a Bosch dishwasher, then let’s say right away that you cannot delay repairs, the breakdown is serious and requires elimination. After reading this article, you will decide for yourself whether you can replace the part yourself or not. For now, first things first.
What does the code mean?
Error E09 in dishwashers of a well-known German brand indicates a breakdown of the heating element. It simply burned out. The heating element in dishwashers is somewhat different from the heater in washing machines, since it is built into the circulation pump and cannot be replaced separately. Most often it has to be replaced along with the pump; some craftsmen call this dishwasher unit a “warm” motor.
For your information! Error code E09 is programmed only in third-generation machines; it is important to know exactly the model of your dishwasher in order to buy a suitable replacement part.
In rare cases, this error may appear due to a malfunction of the temperature sensor or control board, as well as if the wiring from the heating element to the module is damaged.
Reasons for appearance
Why did the heater burn out? This question is asked by many users who find themselves in this situation, and rightly so. You need to know the reasons that led to this malfunction in order to further reduce the risks of its occurrence. Although each part has its own service life, and no matter how you look at it, they wear out. However, we list all the reasons:
- Water getting into the heating element. Water can get onto the heater through leaks that appear. Most often, this place is the sealing rubber, which lies between the machine body and the filter cup.
- Blockages in the drain filter.Due to blockages, water flows into the tank slowly and the heater overheats. Overheating leads to rapid wear.
- Hard water and scale. If there is not enough salt in the ion exchanger, the water remains hard. When such water is heated, scale forms on the heating element; over time, the deposit leads to prolonged heating of the water and failure of the heater.
Heater replacement
Checking and replacing the heating element in a Bosch dishwasher is not too difficult. If you carry out repairs, carefully approaching this issue, then you can do everything yourself. To do this we need: a Phillips screwdriver, a multimeter and a new heating element. The main difficulty is that the heating element is attached to the circulation unit and in order to remove the heating element, you will have to remove this unit, which means that you will have to disassemble the dishwasher almost completely. If this doesn't stop you, let's get to work.
- At this stage of work, the Bosch dishwasher is connected to sewerage, water supply and electricity, which means, first of all, we disconnect the machine from these communications.
- Next, unscrew the front part of the machine, having previously removed the plastic clips that are located along the edges of the body. If you are interested in information regarding fastening the front to the dishwasher, read the publication of the same name.
- After this, unscrew the thin narrow metal panel, which is located immediately under the dishwasher door.
- Remove the insulating material and set it aside.
- Unscrew the screws holding the tray.
- Open the dishwasher door and take out the dish baskets.
- We remove the lower sprinkler and unscrew the garbage filter glass, in addition, we remove the metal mesh that is located at the bottom of the washing hopper.
- We unscrew the 4 screws that hold the circulation block on the side of the hopper.
- We place a highly absorbent rag on the floor behind the dishwasher body and place the “home assistant” on the back wall.
- Disconnect the filling pipe from the circulation unit and remove the pan.
There is no need to pull the pallet towards you too much; it is enough to pull it out slightly so that there is freer access to the parts that are attached to it.
- Turn the drain pump clockwise, disconnect it and place it down.
- We remove the circulation block from the mounts, which are hooked on with hooks, so be careful.
- We disconnect the drain hose from the block and pull the unit out, unhooking the chips with wires.
- We remove the clamp that fastens the heating element to the circulation block and disconnect it by removing the chips with the wires. Before removing the chips, take a photo of their location so that you don’t confuse anything later.
- We unpack the new heating element and put it in place of the old one, attaching all the chips to the contacts.
The problem may not be caused by the heating element, so to clear your conscience, measure the resistance of the old part before installing a new one. Fortunately, we prepared the multimeter for work in advance. At the final stage, all we have to do is assemble the dishwasher in reverse order and test it in operation. The renovation is complete!
So, we figured out how to fix error E09 on a Bosch dishwasher. We hope our publication will be of practical benefit to you, good luck!
