Error 6 in the Gorenje washing machine
Many have already heard about self-diagnosis systems in washing machines, so error codes are not treated indifferently, but not as seriously as we would like. But in vain, because there are fault codes that really require emergency measures and compliance with certain rules, otherwise it will be bad. The same applies to error 6 in the Gorenje washing machine. What does it mean and what to do when it appears?
Manifestation of the code and its decoding
Not all Gorenje washing machines are equipped with a digital display. Those that have it simply display a code on the screen, but less sophisticated models notify the user about the problem in a different way, namely, by a certain combination of blinking diodes on the control panel. First, the ON and OFF buttons will flash in turn (with a very short interval of 0.25 seconds), and so on six times. Then only the OFF button will flash for 5 seconds. After a pause everything will happen again. Where to look for the reasons for this behavior of your “home assistant”? Usually, they lie in a malfunction of the heating element, since the sixth error indicates an insufficient temperature value.
Burning diagnoses an error if, after the heating process, the actual temperature is at least 15 degrees lower than set. However, the wash will not stop and will continue as normal. The user becomes aware of the problem only at the end of the washing program. The first thing you need to check in this case is the tubular electric heater (popularly just a heating element). Of course, both the thermistor and the control module can break, but the likelihood of this is much lower, and such problems are easier to fix.
Testing the heater
You are very lucky if the wash completed successfully, the laundry has just been rinsed in cold water. But when the heating element breaks down, the unit sometimes begins to give an electric shock. Another possible critical point is a short circuit, which will invariably lead to a fire. Therefore, as soon as you receive an error message, immediately disconnect the SM from the power supply. The device itself is located at the bottom of the machine, at the back, on the edge of the body. To access the part, you just need to remove the back cover and, possibly, remove the drive belt (not on all models). Let's look at the verification process in more detail:
- after unplugging the plug, remove the wiring;
- take the tester and set it to measure resistance;
- set the selector to 200 Ohm;
- Connect the tester antennae to the terminals of the water heating element.
Now you need to decipher the multimeter readings.
Important! The heating element is working properly when you see the numbers 26,27 or 28 on the display. If the values 1 or 0 are displayed on the screen, then there is a breakdown. A unit indicates a break inside the device, which indicates the further unsuitability of the heater. 0 – the value of a more serious breakdown – a short circuit inside the heating element.
In both cases, it is almost impossible to make repairs with your own hands, and the experts recommend replacing the part rather than repairing it.
However, the verification does not end there. Sometimes the dielectric, located between the walls of the tubes and the spiral of the heating element, goes to the body of the washing machine. To check for a breakdown, switch the tester to buzzer mode. Now attach one antenna of the multimeter to the heater terminal, and the second to the wall of the unit. If you don’t hear a sound, then everything is in order, and if the tester beeps, then a breakdown has occurred and the problem should be fixed.
