How to put a clamp on the elastic band of a washing machine

How to put a clamp on the elastic band of a washing machineWater leaking from the drum of a washing machine is unsafe and troublesome. But independently replacing the rubber seal on the hatches and inept attempts to put the clamp back on the cuff often lead to just such a situation. To avoid leaks and other related problems, do not act at random. It is better to understand the intricacies of such work in advance. We'll talk about this in detail below.

Installing the Inner Clamp

If there is a problem with installing the clamp, it means that they were successfully removed before. Then it did not go unnoticed that the hatch cuff is secured by two metal holders, external and internal, which are firmly fixed to the rubber seal at the factory. This is the problem with their installation - you will have to put in a lot of effort, patience and skill.

But the procedure depends on the type of clamp used. There are also two of them:

  • screw ones have a special screw that is loosened when put on and tightened at the end;
  • spring ones must be stretched by hand, applying a lot of effort, and only after landing the spring will shrink on its own to its original size.

The second option is considered more troublesome, since “setting” the latch into the special grooves the first time is quite difficult. It is better to “practice” with the old cuff first: often, when tightening with a screwdriver, the new seal is damaged. You have to change the rubber band again, which will negatively affect the family budget. The procedure for dealing with the internal spring clamp is as follows:

Pry up the spring clamp with a screwdriver

  • tuck the edges of the cuff into the drum;
  • Unscrew the hatch lock by unscrewing two screws on the front part of the housing;
  • insert a flat-head screwdriver into the lock and engage the latch with it;
  • we tighten the spring along the entire perimeter with another screwdriver, starting from the place of the hook;
  • return the lock and cuff to their original position.

We proceed differently with a screw ring.

  1. Remove the top cover of the washing machine.
  2. Unscrew the screw to the appropriate diameter.
  3. We place it in the designated place so that the screw is on top.
  4. We “get” to the screw from above and tighten it until it is optimally secured.

Important! The type of holder does not depend on the brand and manufacturer of the washing machine, so it is not forbidden to choose an option that is convenient for installation.

It is worth considering that older models of automatic machines do not provide for adjusting the clamp with screws and springs. In such cases, the ring can only be tightened using pliers.The spring clamp may fall out

Installation of external clamp

From the outside, placing the clamp on the elastic band of the washing machine is even easier: access to the seat is absolutely free. In this case, the procedure does not change. We put the spring ring on one side, hook it from the opposite edge with a screwdriver and pull it into the provided grooves. The main thing is to carefully check the correct installation so that the marks on the cuff and the body correspond to each other, and the holder “fits” directly into the recess. The algorithm for the spring view does not change either:

  • Unscrew the screw as much as possible and loosen the ring;
  • place it on top of the elastic along the outer edge;
  • tighten the screw.

Let's take a closer look at tightening. It is important here not to overtighten the bolt, otherwise the thread will be damaged, the clamp will deteriorate, and you will have to look for a new one. Another danger is the possible fall of the ring from the seat and the occurrence of misalignment. Which will require re-unwinding and planting.

In cases where the screw turns with difficulty or constantly “flies out”, you should not try to push the slot by increasing the pressure. You can fix the problem by lubricating the fastener threads with universal WD-40. All you have to do is screw/unscrew the holder several times to distribute the lubricant along the entire length, and then continue tightening.

It is quite possible to fix the clamp on the cuff of the washing machine yourself if you follow the given rules and act as carefully as possible. It’s better to call for help from an extra pair of hands and discuss the repair sequence in advance.

    Yes, clearly, but I didn’t even know about the feature with the lock :)
