Bosch dishwasher door won't close
When a Bosch dishwasher door won't close, many users think that replacing the lock is the only way out of the situation. This is a universal solution that will definitely help solve the problem. However, the cost of a blocker can reach $40, plus you need to pay $20-30 for the services of a specialist, and not everyone is ready to spend such money.
Sometimes you can get out of a situation in another way, without investments. Let's figure out why the door won't close and how to fix the lock. We will tell you in what cases the latch will need to be replaced.
Repairing the PMM locking mechanism
The dishwasher door is closed with a special lock. Sometimes this device completely or partially fails. It is impossible to operate the machine if the locking mechanism is not working, so you need to quickly repair or replace the lock.
The PMM lock cannot always be repaired. Modern Bosch dishwashers have specially designed locks that cannot be repaired if damaged. Such locking mechanisms will have to be changed completely.
The locking devices that were equipped with earlier Bosch models are quite repairable. They have a plastic case in which a latch, sensor and blocking antennae are hidden. These mechanisms are not entirely reliable - parts of the lock easily break if the PMM door is closed carelessly.
If your Bosch dishwasher is equipped with such a lock, you can try to revive the lock. When you inspect the part, you will see broken parts. They will need to be restored.
Sometimes the problem is that the locking lever does not fully engage when pressed. Because of this, the door does not close.In this case, you can proceed in the following, unusual way: take a dropper, cut off a piece of the desired size from it and simply put it on the lever. After this, he will begin to close the PMM door.
Sometimes the locking lugs on plastic locks break. You can try to restore them at home. For this:
- unscrew the front panel of the dishwasher door (if a façade is installed instead, remove it);
- disconnect the power wires from the lock;
- Unscrew the bolts securing the lock and remove the locking mechanism;
- cut a metal strip of the required size from a steel sheet 0.3 mm thick;
- drill holes for small screws on both edges of the plate;
- bend the strip of metal so that it stands across the broken fasteners on which the antennae previously stood;
- screw the steel plate to the plastic lock body;
- put the lock back, connect the wires to it and check if the door closes.
Sometimes the locks on Bosch dishwashers simply become dislodged, preventing the door from closing. In this case, you need to unscrew the lock, put the device in its original place and securely fasten it.
The PMM lock cannot always be repaired; in some cases, the locking mechanism will need to be replaced.
To change the lock, you do not need to have any special skills. Any user can cope with such a task. Let's figure out how to install a new lock on the dishwasher.
How to replace a faulty lock?
You need to start repairing a Bosch dishwasher by dismantling the door. You should unscrew all the bolts around the perimeter of the panel and carefully remove it. Before doing this, take a photo of the wire connection diagram so as not to make mistakes when reassembling.
To remove the lock, you need to unscrew the two cross bolts securing the lock.
Having finished dismantling, fasten the new lock to the seat in the same way. After that, reconnect the wiring and install the door. Next, check the operation of the locking mechanism.
There are three types of locks on Bosch dishwashers:
- simple electromagnetic, found on earlier PMM models, produces a soft click when triggered;
- thermal lock – the device closes silently, the dishwasher door is locked after heating the mechanism plates;
- combined - now these are the locks that are installed most often, combining elements of the two previous locks.
Therefore, before purchasing, it is better to dismantle the old lock and go to the store with it, then it will be easier for the seller to choose an analogue. When ordering a blocker online, choose a device that matches your dishwasher model Bosch.
As you can see, there is no particular difficulty in replacing a dishwasher lock. The only tool you need is a Phillips screwdriver. The whole job will take no more than 15-20 minutes.
