Miele washing machine does not turn on
It is unpleasant to find yourself in a situation where your Miele washing machine does not turn on. The plug is inserted into the socket, the laundry is loaded into the drum, the powder is poured, the start button is pressed, but the result is zero - the machine is silent. Even the LEDs on the panel do not light up - everything indicates the impossibility of washing. The washing machine “dies out” at the start for several reasons. Let’s look at what we had to face and how to start the cycle, point by point.
What happened to the technology?
The absence of flashing lights on the washing machine clearly indicates that Miele is cut off from the power supply. No current flows, the electronics do not start, and the modules remain inactive. It is logical that in order to eliminate the malfunction it is necessary to find out where exactly the problem with the wiring occurred. There are two options: either outside, outside the machine, or inside. External reasons for the lack of electricity are banal and simple:
- the power supply to the room or apartment is disrupted;
- there were problems in the electrical network (voltage drops);
- the power supply socket is de-energized or damaged;
- The power cord or plug is damaged.
If the absence of a central light usually does not go unnoticed, then users often forget about problems with a separate branch, socket or plug of the power cord, losing sight of them. Meanwhile, such local “electrical problems” occur quite often, preventing the washing machine from turning on.
The Miele washing machine does not turn on due to problems with the power supply: lack of voltage, problems with the network, burnout of the FPS, buttons, varistor or control board.
In addition to external faults, internal faults may also occur.We are talking about the following breakdowns:
- the noise filter (FPS) is burnt out;
- the power button is stuck or damaged;
- varistor burnt out;
- The control board has failed.
To diagnose the washing machine, you need to sequentially check each element responsible for powering the Miele. It is better to start diagnostics with external channels, gradually moving to internal nodes. We will describe below what to do and in what order.
Is the electrical network OK?
The first step is to eliminate the most common and obvious causes of power failures - lack of central light and faulty sockets. In the first case, it is enough to flip the switch and look at the light bulb; in the second, insert a plug from a properly working device, a charger or a blender. If the check shows that everything is in order with the electricity supply, we continue the diagnostics.
You should be extremely careful with the electrical network! The first step is to visually assess the condition of the outlet. A burning smell, melted insulation and black spots will indicate a fire has occurred. In this case, the point must be immediately cut off from the power supply. Otherwise, you may receive an electric shock or cause a fire.
When diagnosing an electrical network, be extremely careful - electric shock is dangerous to human health and life!
It is strongly not recommended to independently repair sockets and wiring in general. This requires a professional electrician with appropriate qualifications. In any case, you must be careful and follow safety regulations.
Interference filter
Having made sure that the socket is working properly, we move on to the power cord and the FPS. First, we carefully inspect the cable for external defects, squeezing and damage.Then we evaluate the condition of the plug, which should not have melted plastic or other signs of fire. If everything is visually intact, then the “internals” should also be checked. We proceed like this:
- disconnect Miele from communications;
- turn the machine backwards forward;
- Unscrew the corresponding screws and remove the top cover;
- looking under the cover, we find the FPS - the “box” to which the power cord is connected;
- unclip the fastener that secures the filter;
- We take out the FPS along with the cord and plug.
Each removed element is checked. First, we separate the filter and the cord by disconnecting the corresponding contacts. Next, turn the multimeter into buzzer mode and “ring” the cable along its entire length. If there is a breakdown or rupture of the cores, the tester will give a signal. If a malfunction is detected, then electrical tape is not enough - you need to completely change the power cord yourself.
Before use, the multimeter must be checked for functionality: just bring the probes together and look at the display - “0” or a number close to it should be displayed.
If the wire is not damaged, then put it aside and begin diagnosing the FPS. We leave the multimeter in buzzer mode, apply the probes to the contacts and ring. Then turn on the ohmmeter and measure the resistance. The appearance of “0” or “1” will prove that the filter is faulty - you will have to change the device.
Home button
Another breakdown that leads to blackout is sticking or damage to the “Start” button. As a rule, this applies to older Miele models released about 15-20 years ago. When the start key is short-circuited, the entire system suffers: the electronics become confused and stop responding to external power sources. It’s not difficult to figure out the power button yourself. We proceed in the following order:
- unscrew the bolts holding the dashboard;
- remove the panel and inspect;
- we find contacts related to the power key;
- measure the resistance on the button;
- We dismantle the burnt button and install a new one in its place.
The resistance on the “Start” button is assessed with the washing machine turned on.
It’s worse if the entire control board or one of its key chips fails. To assess the performance of the module, it is necessary to ring each microelement on the unit using special equipment. Home diagnostics are undesirable - you can damage electronics that are sensitive to external influences, even leading to death. It is better not to aggravate the situation, but to immediately contact the service center. There is no power in the Miele washing machine for several reasons. If the above instructions do not help you turn on the machine, you should contact a service center.
