Siemens dishwasher does not turn on
If you discover that your Siemens dishwasher does not turn on, there is no need to panic. The reason is not always a serious breakdown. Before calling a professional, you should try to figure out the problem yourself. We'll tell you what to check first, which parts are responsible for powering the PMM.
We check this first
What to do first? Open the Siemens PMM door slightly and look at the dashboard. If none of the indicators blink or light up, then the machine is completely de-energized. So check:
- is there “light” at home, perhaps the electricity supply has been temporarily turned off;
- Is everything okay with the electrical panel - probably the machine was knocked out;
- is the outlet working (to do this, connect another electrical appliance to it, preferably one similar in power to a dishwasher. If it doesn’t work, then the problem is not with the machine);
- Are the power cord and plug in order (check for damage, signs of carbon deposits, etc.).
The socket can be checked with a special indicator screwdriver. It happens that it is working properly, but due to lack of power it simply cannot handle such a large appliance as a dishwasher. In this case, you can organize a separate power point for the PMM by connecting a wire of the required cross-section.
If the power supply has not been turned off, everything is in order with the shield and the socket is working, you will have to check the PMM. Diagnostics begins with the dishwasher's power cable. The integrity of the cord may be damaged if it is crushed by a heavy object. Inspect the wire for defects. If there is damage, the element must be replaced.
If the dishwasher is still under warranty, do not look for the cause of the malfunction yourself, call a technician immediately.
If you start to disassemble the case with your own hands, the store’s warranty will be voided. Therefore, be sure to check the warranty card, and only then proceed with your own repairs.
What details prevent you from turning on the PMM?
If all trivial problems are excluded, you will have to perform in-depth diagnostics of the dishwasher. More serious malfunctions can lead to the machine not turning on, the elimination of which should be entrusted to specialists. What elements are damaged?
- Thermal fuse. This element is responsible for emergency power shutdown when the PMM overheats. If it is knocked out or burnt out, the dishwasher will not start. To check the thermal fuse for functionality, you will need a multimeter. If a violation is detected, replace the part.
- Recirculation pump condenser. The pump circulates water in the washing chamber and maintains optimal pressure in the system. During power surges in the network, the capacitor that starts the pump motor may burn out. To check the unit, you will have to “climb” inside the dishwasher.
- Start button. Often the cause of dishwasher malfunction is a non-functioning start button. It can “stick” or simply wear out over the years. The button is checked with a multimeter. If the problem is oxidized contacts, they can be cleaned. However, it is advisable to completely replace the part.
- Network filter. When the Siemens PMM is connected through a noise suppression filter, be sure to check its functionality. This is done again using a multimeter. Having identified a malfunction, replace the filter element.
The surge protector cannot be repaired; it must be replaced.
- A lock that blocks the dishwasher door. A faulty mechanism will not be able to ensure the tightness of the system, which means the cycle will not start. When the problem is with the blocker, the machine’s dashboard lights up, you can select a mode, but you can’t start the wash. Repair will consist of replacing the device.
- PMM control module. The electronic unit is the “brain” of the dishwasher. If it fails, any disruption to the operation of the machine is possible. Including, the device may stop turning on. It is better to entrust the diagnosis and repair of the main control unit to specialists.
If the recirculation pump condenser fails, the machine turns on, the indicators on the control panel light up, but the wash cannot be started. Also at the initial stage, other signs indicate a defect in the element:
- weak water pressure from sprinklers;
- poor quality of cutlery washing.
If the noise filter is damaged, the dishwasher will not turn on. You can suspect a malfunction of the element if there have recently been voltage drops in the network, or the lights in the apartment have been blinking.
It is recommended to entrust diagnostics of the control module to professionals. This is a complex element consisting of a large number of semiconductors. Without sufficient experience and knowledge, you can only make the situation worse. To get to the electronic unit, you will need:
- remove the dishwasher door;
- remove the screws located around the perimeter of the door.
Next, the wiring is disconnected from the module, the board is inspected, and the element is checked with a multimeter. If possible, the main control unit is repaired: semiconductors, sensors are changed, contacts are soldered. If there is no chance of fixing the part, you will have to replace it.
Usually the dishwasher does not turn on precisely because there is no electricity in the network or the outlet is broken. If we talk about malfunctions, then more often it is a failure of the noise filter, a thermal fuse, or a breakdown of the start button. Other problems are extremely rare, but they cannot be ruled out - you will have to “discard” every possible cause.
