Do-It-Yourself Cleaning Options
Since prolonged contact with water is detrimental for a mouton fur coat, the only option left is to dry wash the product. During the cleaning process, you can use special detergent compositions for mouton or resort to folk remedies.
In cases where the mouton has become dull and lost its shine, vinegar helps a lot. First, dilute a spoonful of acetic acid in a liter of water.Next, you need to hang the fur coat on hangers and throw a damp cotton sheet soaked in this solution over it. Afterwards all that remains is to knock the thing out with your hand on both sides. All the dust will settle on the rag, and the pile will shine again, as before.
You can lightly refresh the fur by simply vacuuming it using a special attachment for upholstered furniture.
A wooden comb with sparse teeth will help you comb out small debris, animal hair, and hairs. It is enough to carefully comb the fur in the direction of the pile. The fur coat will immediately look fresher.
If stains and stains are clearly visible on your sheepskin coat, try removing them using one of the following methods.
- Fill a basin with warm water and dilute washing gel or powder in it. Whip up a generous amount of soap. Using a sponge or soft brush, apply a little foam to the fur and rub, moving in one direction. When all contaminated areas have been treated, remove the remaining detergent with a clean, slightly damp cloth and hang the sheepskin coat to dry.
- Mix 100 ml of water, the same amount of table vinegar and alcohol. This solution must be applied to the stain using foam rubber or a cotton pad. Afterwards, the treated area is wiped with a dry piece of cotton cloth. Next, the fur coat should be dried.
- Add 15 ml of ammonia and 3 tablespoons of salt to 0.5 liters of water. Stir until the granules are completely dissolved. Apply the resulting solution to the fur. Then you should clean the mouton with a soft brush and comb it with a comb in the direction of the pile.
To the question whether it is possible to wash a mouton fur coat, the answer is unequivocal - no. But it is quite possible to clean it at home using one of the approved methods.
What to clean with?
Today in stores you can find specialized products for caring for fur products. Professional formulations are able to remove severe dirt, remove greasy stains, and cope with traces of grease and cosmetics. Usually these are special napkins, brushes, foams for deep cleaning of lint, and cleaning sprays.
You can buy compounds that not only remove old stains, but also prevent the appearance of new ones. They form an invisible film that protects the mouton from contamination.
For simple, local stains, there is no need to spend money on expensive household chemicals. For cleaning you can use:
- washing powder, liquid or laundry soap. Of course, since washing the mouton is prohibited, the products are used only to obtain abundant soap suds;
- vinegar. The vinegar solution copes well with greasy fur and helps restore the shine of the pile;
- alcohol. Removes fat from the mouton and neutralizes odor. How to prepare a cleaning composition from water, salt and alcohol has already been described;
- hydrogen peroxide. Can be used for cleaning exclusively light-colored mouton fur coats. A cheap pharmaceutical product helps to cope with yellowness and remove fat stains. The solution is prepared from 500 ml of water, a spoon of peroxide and 45 grams of table salt.
Do not use chlorine-containing products to wash the mouton. We are talking about bleaches based on chlorine, solvent, and acetone. Aggressive components will inevitably ruin a fur item.
