Can a dishwasher be placed next to a refrigerator?
The rules for placing a dishwasher are easy to follow for owners of large kitchens. But what to do if the kitchen is very small and there is barely enough space in it to accommodate everything you need. But you also need to think about what can be placed next to what, and what cannot be placed next to it, so as not to inadvertently ruin an expensive dishwasher, stove or refrigerator. Whatever one may say, you will have to place some devices nearby, but what? Today we will pay special attention to the question: is it possible to place a dishwasher next to the refrigerator, and at the same time we will remember about other household appliances.
What is the danger?
The manufacturer claims that installing a dishwasher close to the refrigerator can harm both appliances, but how real is this danger? The walls of modern refrigerators with the No Frost function get quite hot, but still not hot enough to cause any damage to the dishwasher. The machine, in the event of a water leak, could theoretically damage the refrigerator, but the likelihood of this is very low. The vibration from the dishwasher is also low and it is also not capable of harming the refrigerator. What conclusion can be drawn from this?
- If the doors of the dishwasher and refrigerator do not interfere with each other, then the appliances can be placed side by side.
- Leave a gap between the body of the machine and the wall of the refrigerator. One centimeter will be enough.
- Do not plug these devices into the same outlet. The refrigerator and dishwasher are large consumers; the electrical network may not be able to withstand the load. In addition, it is better to protect the electrical connection stabilizer for dishwasherso that power surges do not damage devices.
The stabilizer is quite expensive, but not more expensive than all the equipment in the kitchen.
If you are very worried about your refrigerator and dishwasher, lay a thin layer of thermal insulation between their bodies. This will be enough to ensure safe operation of these two most important kitchen items.
Unwanted neighbors for your washing machine
As you already understand, the refrigerator is not on the list of undesirable neighbors for the dishwasher. What should a dishwasher stay away from? First of all, from the microwave oven. A microwave is generally very poorly compatible with any electrical appliances, because the radiation emanating from it is harmful to electronics. Only simple electrical appliances, such as a kettle, toaster, coffee maker, food processor, etc., more or less tolerate being in proximity to a microwave.
A dishwasher, refrigerator, washing machine, multicooker, etc. contain electronic filling, which means that the microwave oven should be kept at some distance from them, at least 20-30 cm. A washing machine is also considered an “aggressive” technique and cannot be used Do not place it close to the dishwasher. The fact is that during the spin process the machine body vibrates strongly. If you place it tightly to the PMM body, vibration will be transmitted to the dishwasher, which can lead to its breakdown.
In order for the washing machine to work normally in the kitchen, there must be a gap of 2-3 cm between its body and the bodies of other equipment (or furniture walls). Provided that the washing machine is level, this distance will be enough so that the body, even when spinning at 1200 rpm, does not touch surrounding objects.
Another undesirable neighbor for a dishwasher is a stove with an oven. Placing the dishwasher and stove close together is dangerous because the oven body overheats and transfers heat to the dishwasher, which is not designed for this. As a result, the dishwasher may malfunction. If it is possible to better separate the stove and the dishwasher with some kind of cabinet, but if this is not possible, then you need to put reliable heat-insulating material between the machine and the stove.
So, the location of the dishwasher in the kitchen must be adjusted. You need to think about not only where the dishwasher will be located, but also who its closest neighbors will be. It will survive proximity to a refrigerator, but close contact with a microwave can be fatal. Good luck!
Great article, very helpful! Thank you!
Nonsense and not an article, I have an expensive refrigerator and an expensive dishwasher. When it comes off, it releases steam and the refrigerator gets so hot that water drips into the freezer. Apparently the author does not have a dishwasher at all.
I agree completely, a dishwasher heats nearby objects more intensely than an oven; it’s definitely not an option next to a refrigerator; at a minimum, you need a 150-degree cabinet between these appliances.
