Where to put salt in a Bosch dishwasher?
A Bosch dishwasher requires certain products to operate. All of them can be grouped into 2 blocks: those needed to combat pollution, and the second, designed to soften hard water. Household chemicals should be used every time the PMM is turned on.
To soften hard tap water, be sure to use a special product. This will protect the internal parts of the PMM from scale. Let's figure out how often you need to pour salt into the dishwasher where the granule container is located.
Looking for a container for salt?
If this is your first time using a dishwasher, be sure to read the instructions for the equipment. It describes where to pour salt and place tablets for cleaning utensils. In dishwashers The Bosch salt granule tray is located at the bottom of the working chamber, under the lower basket.
A special funnel will help you pour salt into the compartment. It is usually not included with Bosch dishwashers and must be purchased separately. The device is inexpensive, about $5-7.
When salt is poured into the PMM for the first time, the compartment is pre-filled with water.
As the salt crystals are loaded, excess water will go down the drain. When finished, close the tray and place the dish baskets in the wash compartment. After this, you can run the test cycle.
Today there are a lot of 3-in-1 dishwasher tablets on sale that already contain salt. There is a separate compartment for capsules located on the inside of the door. However, the salt crystals in them will not be enough to soften too hard water, so experts still recommend additionally filling the container at the bottom of the washing chamber.
Do you use too much salt?
This is another question that concerns owners of Bosch dishwashers. Here a lot will depend on what kind of salt is used. There can be three options:
- regenerating salt for PMM (for example Finish, Somat, Calgonit, etc.);
- tableted salt for dishwashers;
- boiling down granules "Extra".
The package or box with regenerating salt indicates that it must be poured into the compartment to the top. The final volume will depend on the dishwasher model. Most PMMs hold 700-900 grams of salt crystals.
Tablet salt is also placed in the compartment at the bottom of the working chamber. The container should be filled to the top. As for boiled salt, a 1 kilogram pack is usually sufficient.
The dishwasher itself will inform you how often you need to add salt. Modern Bosch washing machines are equipped with a special indicator. If it lights up, the container is empty and it’s time to refill the compartment with salt crystals.
How often do you add salt to the PMM?
To soften hard water, Bosch dishwashers are equipped with an ion exchanger. It contains a resin with negative chlorine ions. These particles attract metal impurities contained in tap water, and it becomes softer. Without such treatment, suspensions would settle on the internal parts of the PMM, forming limescale.
Salt is just necessary to replenish negatively charged chlorine ions. It restores particles, ensuring normal operation of the ion exchanger. The harder the tap water, the greater the consumption of salt granules.
On every Bosch dishwasher you can adjust the salt consumption. To do this, you need to find out the hardness of the water. There are two ways to find out:
- "approximately";
- using special strips.
You can only tell by eye whether the water is hard or not, without obtaining an exact value. To do this, you need to pick up laundry soap and foam it. If it foams with difficulty, then we can talk about high rigidity.
It is better to use special test strips. After dipping into water, they change color according to the level of hardness. By comparing the shade with a special scale, you can easily calculate the indicator. The cost of such indicators is low, starting from $4 for a whole package.
In summer and winter, water hardness will be different, so it is recommended to take measurements and reconfigure the dishwasher 2-3 times a year.
Information on how to set up a Bosch dishwasher softener is in the instructions for the equipment. The algorithm of actions will vary depending on the model. Having set the desired level and poured salt into the compartment, you can start using the PMM.
It doesn’t really matter how much salt is poured into the compartment. The main thing is that she is always there. You can fill the container to the brim once every six months, or load 150-200 grams of crystals every month.
