How to dry sneakers in a Bosch dryer?
Once dryers hit the market, they were designed to dry only clothing items. But as usual, people immediately began to experiment and empirically discovered the possibility of automatically drying shoes. At first this went against the rules of operation, but soon manufacturers listened to the wishes and made drying machines that have the ability to dry shoes without harm to the unit and the shoes themselves. Especially often there is a need to dry sneakers. How, for example, do you dry sneakers in a Bosch dryer?
Program for drying sneakers
Unfortunately, Bosch machines are not equipped with a special mode for drying shoes. In this regard, users face difficulties in choosing a suitable program and get lost. In this case, it makes sense to read the care label on the sneakers to understand what parameters are acceptable so as not to harm them.
If the tag is already lost, you will have to rely on your ideas and intuition. In general, in this case, it is better to dry the crosses naturally, but if you can’t wait to take risks, opt for the most gentle modes. They may be called “Wool”, “Delicates”, “Delicate”, “Sensitive”, etc. These modes are characterized by low air temperatures, so the risk of causing damage to shoes is minimal.
Rules for drying sneakers
It is also important to remember that improperly drying sneakers in a dryer can harm not only the shoes, but also the parts of the unit.Did you know that in a dryer the drum rotates in exactly the same way as in a washing machine, at a fairly high speed - 1200 rpm. Rotation promotes uniform distribution of hot air throughout the drum and accelerated evaporation of moisture from things. If you dry your shoes at such a spin speed, it will not end well.
So, there are several important rules that must be followed if you want to dry your sneakers in a dryer efficiently and safely:
- Unless there is a special program for drying shoes, never put your sneakers in the drum alone. Add a blanket, bulky and soft items, and duvet covers to them to reduce the level of inertia and the intensity of shoe impacts on the inside of the machine. In addition, the noise during drying will be much less.
- Before putting your sneakers in the dryer, you should wash them thoroughly. Lumps of dirt and dust can damage the unit and also spoil the appearance of things being dried at the same time as the sneakers. Sometimes small pebbles may get stuck in the texture of the sole; remove them. If shoes have removable decorative elements (for example, bells on laces, if we are talking about children's shoes), they must be removed.
If the sneakers are very richly decorated with non-removable elements, then it is better not to machine dry them, but to dry them by hand; the same goes for shoes that are not stitched with threads, but glued.
In some dryer models you can find special drum stands. They are placed in the drum like a shelf, and sneakers are placed on top. Thus, drying will be faster, since air will hit the shoes from all sides, and the mechanical impact of the shoes on the inside of the drum will be eliminated.
Possible risks
Low-quality shoes will almost certainly not survive drying in an automatic machine. This is due to the fact that cheap materials used in production are not designed to withstand high temperatures. The glue can melt, the coating can crack, colored decorative elements can fade, and rhinestones, beads, etc. can come off and get stuck somewhere. Therefore, it is better to dry your shoes on a stand; it reduces such risks.
Another unpleasant issue that you may encounter when drying shoes at high temperatures is shrinkage. Shoes may come down a few sizes, so they can be given to someone younger or thrown out altogether.
