How do broken bearings reveal themselves?

Characteristic signs indicate the need to replace bearings. The bearing assembly performs an important function - it connects the drum and the pulley, which allows the engine to spin the container to a given speed. When the rings break, the machine cannot operate as before; it begins to make noise, “jump” and vibrate strongly.

The main “symptoms” of broken bearings:

rattling and clanging when the washing machine operates;
strong vibration of the SMA body;
drum play;
insufficient spin intensity even at maximum speed;
deformation of the drum cuff (due to the resulting imbalance, things rub against the seal, damaging the rubber);
rusty stains on the back wall of the tank, where the pulley connects.

The need to replace the SMA Indesit bearings will be indicated by strong knocking and grinding noises during operation of the device, increased vibration, drum play and rust on the rear wall of the tank.

In total, Indesit washing machines have two bearings, external and internal. The diameter of the first ring is larger, since it takes on the main load. The outer one is located at the end of the shaft and performs an auxiliary function, so it is smaller. Models with one reinforced double-row bearing are rare.

Why is there a seal in the machine?

When purchasing a repair kit, you will find that in addition to a pair of bearings, the package contains an oil seal. The sealing rubber changes along with the rings. The gasket prevents water from getting inside the bearing assembly, which prevents premature wear.

If spare parts are purchased not as a set, but separately, it is important not to forget about the rubber gasket. When replacing drum rings, a new seal must be installed. The dimensions of the oil seal, as well as the bearings, depend on the model of the Indesit washing machine.

Types of oil seals installed in modern automatic machines:

single-edge gaskets – protect the bearing assembly only from moisture;
single-edge seals with a boot - additional protection against debris is expected;
oil seals with V-shaped profile. Such gaskets are found only on vertical SMAs. Provide complete protection from all negative factors: moisture, dust, debris.

All modern oil seals are supplemented with a metal mesh. During installation, it is important not to damage the reinforcing base. It is imperative to preserve the original shape of the sealing gum - only then will it be able to perform its functions.

Analogs from the Middle Kingdom can quickly become deformed, and complex repairs involving complete disassembly of the washing machine will have to be repeated. Therefore, saving in this case is not worth it.

How do craftsmen change bearings?

The bearings are “hidden” deep - inside the washing machine tank. During the repair process, you will have to partially disassemble the “home assistant”. To remove the plastic container from the SMA body, you must:

de-energize the device;
disconnect the machine from the water supply and sewerage;
remove the top cover of the SMA housing;
get the powder receptacle;
remove the control panel of the washing machine;
disconnect from the tank the parts that interfere with its removal: counterweights, pressure switch, inlet valve, heating element, motor, all pipes and contacts;
loosen the shock absorbers.

The removed unit is placed on a flat surface. The next stage is disassembling the container. The Indesites have a cast tank, so most often the craftsmen have to saw it. Replacement of bearings is carried out as follows:

drill holes around the perimeter of the tank (they will be necessary for subsequent assembly of the container);
saw the tank along the factory seam;
turn the bottom of the tank over;
unscrew the screw and unhook the pulley (if the fastening does not work, treat it with WD-40);
lightly hit the bushing and remove the drum;
knock out both bearings using a drift and a small hammer;
remove dirt, rust and wear from the seat;
Press in the small bearing first, then the large one;
treat the sealing rubber with a special lubricant;
place the oil seal on top.

Next, all that remains is to assemble the unit. The parts of the tank are fastened together with moisture-resistant sealant and several bolts (holes were initially drilled for them). Then the plastic container is fixed in the housing, and all previously disconnected parts are returned to their place. At the end, a test cycle is started without any laundry in the drum - if everything goes well, the repair can be considered complete.
