How to Install a Dishwasher Door Seal

replacing the sealReplacing the dishwasher door seal may be necessary when the door begins to leak. At first, a few drops of water flow out onto the floor throughout the entire sink, this can easily be overlooked, but then it starts to drip quite “vigorously” from the door and a significant puddle forms next to the dishwasher. Installing the bottom rubber of the dishwasher door will help solve the problem, since it is the bottom seal that most often causes the problem. Let's try to figure out how to do this.

Tools and accessories

To replace the top seal of the dishwasher, no tools are needed at all. It is enough to purchase a new original seal and replace it with a slight movement of the hand. It's simple. But replacing the dishwasher seal, which is located at the bottom, is somewhat more difficult. We will need:

  • Phillips screwdriver;
  • tweezers or pliers;

Tweezers are needed to pry and pull out the bottom elastic band, so if you don’t have tweezers or pliers on hand, use any other suitable tool.

  • gloves;
  • new original lower seal.

The upper and lower rubber bands of an Electrolux, Ariston or any other dishwasher are very different from each other. In addition, different brands and models of washing machines have different rubber bands. Please pay special attention to this when ordering components. It is best to purchase or order rubber bands in company stores; we strongly do not recommend looking for a suitable replacement.

Procedure

seal on PMMExperts recommend replacing seals as a set.You should not change only the lower or only the upper seal, it will be of little use. The best place to start is with the top seal. We do the following:

  • fully open the door of the Coopersberg, Candy or any other dishwasher;
  • With our fingers we take hold of the seal, which is located along the edges of the washing chamber and tear it off;
  • unpack the new seal and gradually glue it in place of the old one.

You need to try to ensure that the seal “sits” well and adheres to the bottom of the groove on the self-adhesive layer. Once you are convinced that the upper seal is “sat” in its place, you can proceed to replacing the lower elastic band.

  1. Fully open the door of a Bosch, Samsung or any other dishwasher.
  2. Take a screwdriver and unscrew the screws that hold the front panel of the door.
  3. We close the dishwasher door, and then pull the front panel off the latches and move it to the side.
  4. Open the door completely again, and then use tweezers to reach into its base and grab the edge of the lower seal.
  5. Carefully remove the old seal and set it aside.
  6. We take out a new rubber band from the package.
  7. We push the new elastic band into place of the old one until it stops so that it “sits” along its entire length. The seal must not protrude beyond the edges of the washing hopper.

Note! The new elastic band has a transverse slot. This slot should be on the right side of the door.

Now you need to close the door Zanussi dishwasher or any other. Pay attention to the bottom of the door. The lower seal should lie evenly in the groove and protrude forward by about 2-3 mm. Then all we have to do is put the front panel on the clips, tighten the screws and we can try to start the dishwasher. The renovation is complete.

Caring for rubber gaskets

Everyday use of the dishwasher leads to the fact that the lower seal is almost constantly exposed to wetness and drying out. Due to such metamorphoses, the rubber band cracks over time and begins to let water through. To avoid this and extend the service life of the seals, after each dishwashing you need to pass a dry cloth along the edges of the washing chamber, wiping the rubber band. A clean and dry rubber band will not deteriorate for a long time.

If the dishwasher was stored in a cold room for a long time and then put into operation, the rubber bands need to be prepared. How to do it? Take WD-40 liquid, spray it on a cloth, and then wipe the upper and lower elastic bands. This simple measure will protect the seal from damage. But do not be overzealous with the lubricant, it should not spread.

To summarize, we note that the process of installing seals on a dishwasher takes 15 minutes for a professional and 30 minutes for a novice master. As you can see, this is not difficult; you will spend more time looking for components than installing them later. The main thing is to be careful and take your time, then everything will be fine. Good luck!
