Is it possible to wash a bamboo blanket in a washing machine?
Bamboo products quickly flooded the market. The supply is huge, but the demand for bamboo blankets and pillows is also great, because they are much more practical than traditional down bedding. No matter how good bamboo blankets are, they also sometimes need to be rid of dirt, but the question is, can they be washed in an automatic washing machine or is only hand washing suitable? Or maybe they shouldn’t be wetted with water at all? We will try to answer these questions within the framework of this publication.
Is it machine washable?
A bamboo blanket has a number of advantages over bedding stuffed with down. Bamboo fiber is soft, delicate, holds its shape well and does not wrinkle easily. Bamboo, being an environmentally friendly material, however, does not create conditions for the development of saprophytes, insects and various microbes. However, if you do not take care of it, then over time dirt will penetrate between the fibers and the product will begin to lose its shape, at the same time becoming a breeding ground for microbes.
Dirt does not spare anything, so you need to get rid of it in time. Products made from bamboo fibers, including blankets, can be washed either by hand or in a machine. But you need to wash and dry them correctly, otherwise there is a risk of ruining the products. Let's talk about how to properly wash bamboo blankets by hand and in the machine, and then how to dry them properly.
For your information! Bamboo stems are split into the finest fibers, then these fibers are subjected to special processing - this is how high-quality bamboo filler is obtained.
Instructions
Is it possible to wash a bamboo product in an automatic washing machine? It’s not only possible, but also necessary, because a modern washing machine is ideal for this. However, in order not to spoil the thing, you must follow the basic rules:
- Do not wash bamboo products at temperatures above 40 0WITH;
- You can wash bamboo only with a liquid detergent, preferably a special one - no loose powders;
- during washing, the drum should not rotate at a speed of more than 800 revolutions, the same applies to spinning;
- if the machine has a “double rinse” mode, be sure to set it; if not, turn on the re-rinse manually;
- do not select washing modes (even delicate) if the program will last more than 1 hour. Bamboo fibers should not remain in water for too long.
These were the basic rules. Please read them again and remember them well, then the risk of spoiling the bamboo blanket will be minimal. Now we will present the procedure that must be followed when washing such a blanket in an automatic or semi-automatic washing machine.
- You need to make sure that the blanket will fit into the drum of the washing machine.
- Inspect the blanket for damage; if you find holes somewhere, sew them up.
- Fold the bamboo blanket and then roll it into a roll.
- Remove the powder container from the washing machine and rinse it under running water. There should be no powder residues from the previous wash in the machine.
- Place the cuvette in place and pour liquid into it.
- Select the appropriate washing mode. If you have problems choosing, read the publication Functions and modes in the washing machine.
- Now you can wash the blanket, but do not forget to set the double rinse mode.
- When the program ends, open the hatch and feel the blanket; there is a high probability that at 800 rpm it will not spin properly - repeat the spin cycle.
- Dry the blanket properly. Read on to learn how this is done.
Important! When washing a bamboo blanket in an automatic washing machine, do not shove it in a lump into the drum; a crumpled product will be harder to straighten out later.
Manually
Well, what about hand washing? We can please fans of gentle hand washing by saying that bamboo blankets can withstand hand washing quite well, the main thing, again, is to do everything correctly. Bamboo blankets are washed without soaking and intense mechanical action; in other words, you cannot rub or “cheat” such a product with your hands.
Do not wash in hot water. The optimal water temperature will be 40 0WITH. Do not pour liquid powder directly onto the blanket. You must first pour warm water into a basin or bathtub, then dissolve liquid hand washing detergent in it, and only then lay in a bamboo blanket. For hand washing bamboo items, only special liquid powder is suitable. After washing the blanket, gently wring it out and you can start drying it.
Tips for drying items
Finally, let's talk about drying a bamboo blanket. By the way, if a bamboo blanket is not dried correctly, its filling will clump together and then you will have to put in a lot of effort to restore it (if this works out at all). Experts give quite adequate and clearly interpretable advice on this matter.
Carefully straighten the damp blanket and lay it out on a flat surface. Home drying is best for this. The blanket should be dried in a well-ventilated area, or better yet on a balcony or outside in the shade. You should not spread the blanket under the scorching rays of the sun, this will only damage the bamboo product. You should not hang the blanket on a clothesline, as the filling will clump together.
While drying the blanket, you need to periodically beat and shake it a little so that the filler dries evenly and again does not clump. This does not mean that you need to stand near the blanket for several hours in a row. It is enough to approach the bamboo blanket about once an hour, shake it off and turn it over, and then it will dry normally.
For your information! If you are drying a bamboo blanket at home, you can place a wind blower heater nearby. Just don't put it too close.
To summarize, we note that washing a bamboo blanket both by hand and in a machine is not only possible, but also necessary. And this should be done at least once every 6 months, and preferably once every 3 months. This is how your bamboo bedding will always be clean and fresh. And how pleasant it will be for allergy sufferers to sleep on them!
