How to open a Bosch dishwasher
Let’s imagine that a Bosch dishwasher, having properly washed the dishes, refuses to give them to us in the literal sense of the word. At the end of the wash, the door was tightly locked and did not want to open. What to do in such an unpleasant situation as opening a Bosch dishwasher to get your favorite mug and plate back? Let's try to figure out this not at all funny question and do something.
How to unlock the washing chamber?
On some models of Bosch dishwashers, the door does not have a lock and can be opened at any time, but there are not many such equipment. Mostly the dishwasher lock is present and sometimes it can create serious problems. What to do if the door does not want to open? The Internet advises to look for the cause of the malfunction that caused the door to lock, inspect the lock, and perform other actions. But how to do this if there is no access to half of the parts, because the door is closed?
It is best to do nothing in the first hours. Sometimes the dishwasher door does not open due to a power outage or some other problem with the power supply to the machine. But even if nothing like this happened, after a few hours the blocking will be lifted on its own. In the worst case scenario, the lock should be removed automatically after 10 hours.
While waiting, there is no need to pry at the door with a screwdriver or try to pull the handle hard. Thus, you can cause unwanted additional damage to your “home assistant”.
On new Bosch dishwashers, sometimes the door does not open due to the rubber seal. The new U-shaped seal sticks to the door and prevents it from opening. If you pull the handle too hard, the door will open, but you can tear off the seal, so you need to pull gradually with increasing force.
Why does the malfunction occur?
Not only a seal smeared with glue and a power outage can cause irreversible blocking of the door. In some cases, this problem is caused by serious malfunctions.
- Damage to the outlet or power cord. A squashed or broken power cord and a shorted socket lead to the dishwasher losing power. As a result, the door lock will not be released for some time.
- Locking device is broken. If the door lock itself is faulty, then the door will not open after the wash program has completed.
- The drain hose is squashed or there is a blockage in the system. If water cannot be removed from the dishwasher, the control module takes protective measures to prevent dirty water from leaking out of the wash chamber. The door is locked until the water is removed.
- Control board failure. If for some reason there is no signal from the control board to unlock the door, then it will remain closed for many hours.
If you suspect that it is the control board that has failed, you should call a specialist. The control board is an expensive part, and when repairing it handicraft, you can make mistakes that will lead to its irreversible damage. It’s better to overpay a little for the services of a specialist than to then shell out half the cost of a new dishwasher for repairs.
How to fix the problem?
If you find that the Bosch dishwasher door is locked and does not want to open, you need to check the presence of voltage in the electrical network. To do this, you can use an indicator screwdriver or simply plug in a working device. Next on the list we will check the network cable. On a broken wire (if it was broken as a result of squeezing), traces of burning and soot are even visually clearly visible. If a visual inspection does not give any results, you can take a multimeter and check the wire for breakdown. Perhaps it simply broke under a layer of insulation.
At the next stage, the dishwasher should be disconnected from the water supply and drain, pulled out somewhere in the middle of the room and rags placed under the body. When you pull out the machine, listen for water splashing inside. If the machine does not drain the water, then most likely there is a serious blockage inside that needs to be removed.
We wait until the machine unlocks the door. Carefully open the door and immediately take out the garbage filter. Next, unscrew the ion exchanger plug, and then slightly tilt the dishwasher body toward you or to the right so that excess water flows out onto the floor. If you have problems, read the article How to drain water from a Bosch dishwasher. After cleaning the filter, the machine should start working correctly again.
Please note that a lot of water can leak out, so if you have laminate flooring, it is better to drag the machine to a more unpretentious surface.
If the door locking device is broken, repairing it is usually useless. We'll have to change it. The original spare part can be ordered in one of the many stores scattered across the Internet, or can be purchased at the nearest Bosch equipment parts store. The device is located directly under the top cover of the washing chamber; removing this cover gives you full access to it. We disconnect the old device and put a new one in its place, and then put the cover in place. Nothing complicated.
Some users ask: is it possible to open the dishwasher during operation? The instructions for the Bosch dishwasher will help you answer this question. On some models, the door can be opened while the program is running, so that the user can put a forgotten glass or bowl in the basket. If the instructions allow opening the door during operation, this can be done, but if the instructions prohibit such actions, then it is better to obey.
So, we figured out that the Bosch dishwasher door locking device is made quite cleverly. It can block the door for a long time and thereby create problems for the user, but in the end it will turn off and the door will open, you just have to wait. In the future, you need to take measures to find the cause of the long blocking and, if possible, eliminate it.
