How often should you wash your clothes?
Doing a lot of laundry every day is not a good idea. Frequent washing causes things to wear out faster and lose color. Infrequently putting clothes into the drum leads to the proliferation of bacteria in the fabrics, and old, stubborn stains will be more difficult to remove. Is there some kind of “golden mean” in this matter? Let's figure out how often you need to wash your clothes so as not to harm either your laundry or your own health.
What should I wash and how long should I wash it?
Experts recommend washing various home textiles and clothing at certain intervals. Many housewives are unaware of such advice and begin to care for the things around them out of “inspiration.” Here are the basic rules for the frequency of washing certain products.
- It is advisable to put bed linen (sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers) into the washing machine once a week or two.
Even if the sleeping accessories look fairly fresh, do not forget that the fabric absorbs sweat and other liquids, and bacteria multiply there.
- Pillows require timely cleaning, approximately once every 6 months. Most items can be machine washed, but some will have to be dry cleaned. If, after pressing the pillow, it does not take its usual shape, it’s time to buy a new one.
- The mattress cover is also subject to contamination; it is advisable to wash it every month (or once every 60 days). Before cleaning, check the manufacturer's care instructions; many mattress toppers should be hand washed.
- The bathroom rug can be “scrolled” in the washing machine once a week. In fact, it is much more polluted than we think.A cotton or synthetic rug can be washed in the standard mode, while a rubberized fabric can be washed in the “Delicate Wash” program.
- It is also better to refresh towels once every 7 days. You need to choose a mode with the maximum possible water heating for them. If desired, you can add a softening conditioner.
- Bra - after three or four wears. Sports tops and bras should be refreshed after each activity. Bodices should be fastened and washed on a gentle cycle. Bras should be dried naturally, and machine drying should be avoided.
- Pajamas should be washed twice a week, or more precisely, every 3-4 wearings. It absorbs as much “harmfulness” as bed linen.
As for clothing, it is recommended to wash tops after every wear, jeans, skirts, pants - every 3 wears. Be sure to sort items by color and type of fabric before washing. White and light-colored products are loaded separately, and colored ones into another cycle.
Washing after special operating conditions
The previously described recommendations apply under standard conditions for using textiles. If things are used more intensively, then the advice will be different. Here are some additional instructions.
- Children's clothes should be washed more often; parents usually run the washing machine every day. In this case, be sure to use safe detergents.
- Items after intense physical activity require immediate cleaning. The sweat released by a person quickly makes clothes unusable.
- Rugs and rugs must be vacuumed every five days. It is recommended to “beat” them outside once every two weeks and completely wash them annually.
- It is enough to wash dark outerwear every 2 months.A white down jacket will require more frequent maintenance, as dirt on the cuffs, collar and pockets will be clearly visible. The work jacket will have to be cleaned once a week, sometimes even more often.
Coats, sheepskin coats, fur coats and other outerwear that cannot be machine washed are best dry cleaned in the middle and end of the season. Heavy wear may require more frequent maintenance. Each item must be washed in a timely manner, then it will retain its quality and original appearance for a long time.
