Cooking food in the dishwasher
If you thought that a dishwasher can only be used for washing dishes, you were very mistaken. People have long guessed that this is a multifunctional device that can be used for washing vegetables, children's toys and other things. But they figured out how to cook food in the dishwasher relatively recently. How do they do this, and what dishwasher recipes are there? Let's get a look.
Why do this?
Europeans have been using dishwashers much longer than Russians, so they have noticed that dishes get very hot during washing. If you turn on intensive mode and wash at a temperature of 700C, then the dishes get so hot that sometimes they even burst. That is why the manufacturer does not recommend using intensive modes for washing fragile dishes and dishes made from materials sensitive to high temperatures.
Bright minds guessed that a dishwasher on intensive mode works almost like a steam oven, which means you can try to cook food while dirty dishes are washed right there in the baskets. Experiments began to reveal the advantages of cooking in a dishwasher.
- It is beneficial to cook food while washing dishes in the machine, because you can save energy.
- Food that simmers at temperatures below 1000C, retains a maximum of vitamins and microelements. Its use is good for health.
- Cooking in the dishwasher saves the housewife time, since the entire process occurs automatically.
Of course, at a sufficiently low temperature, it is not recommended to cook all foods in a row.This is especially true for meat. It will not be possible to cook large pieces in this way, but finely chopped fillet or minced meat is quite possible. Chicken also cooks well in the dishwasher, but still not the whole carcass, but the breast or legs. Fish is cooked well, as well as vegetables cut into small slices.
Some European housewives even managed to bake apple pies in the dishwasher.
Cooking food in a dishwasher should take place while observing basic safety precautions. First of all, you need to remember that dishes are washed using dishwashing detergent and rinse aid, and under no circumstances should water with chemicals be allowed to come into contact with food. To do this, the prepared products are placed in special sealed jars made of heat-resistant glass or in special heat-resistant containers. If water does get on cooked food, there is no need to eat it.
New potatoes with herbs
We decided to start with a simple summer recipe that is familiar to everyone, but not everyone has had to implement it using a dishwasher. So, to prepare young potatoes with herbs you need to take: 1 kg of medium-sized young potatoes, a small bunch of dill, parsley, green onions, a small head of onion, salt, pepper, a sprig of thyme. We start cooking, oddly enough, by loading dirty dishes into the dishwasher. We leave some space in the upper basket for a container with food and start cooking.
- Young potatoes can be peeled or not, as you like.
- Cut it into slices, put it in a bowl and add salt.
- Finely chop the greens and onions, and then add it all to the potatoes.
- Mix the products, lightly pepper and place it all in an airtight container.
- Finally, add a sprig of thyme and close the container as best as possible.
Thyme, like onions, is not necessary to add, it’s a matter of taste.
- Place the container in the basket, close the dishwasher and set the “Intensive wash” program.
When the program ends, you need to carefully remove the jar, open it and place the contents on plates. Delicious new potatoes stewed in the dishwasher are ready.
Lazy cabbage rolls
The second recipe is also simple, but it will use minced meat. You can see for yourself that it is quite possible to cook even meat in the dishwasher. Just as in the case of cooking new potatoes, we load dirty dishes and leave space in the top tray for the container in which we will cook. We take half a kilo of minced meat, 300 g of Chinese cabbage and several leaves of white cabbage, 100 g of rice, a small head of onion, a small carrot, 1 egg, salt and pepper.
- First, cook the rice on the stove in a ladle. This will take about 10 minutes.
- Finely chop the onion, grate the carrots and combine the vegetables with minced meat.
- Add salt, pepper and chicken egg to the minced meat, mix everything.
- Finely chop the Chinese cabbage and add it to the minced meat.
- Mix everything very well and roll the mixture into even balls the size of a medium chicken egg.
- We put the cabbage rolls in layers in a jar, placing each layer with a cabbage leaf so that the cabbage rolls do not stick together during cooking.
- Close the jar tightly and put it in the dishwasher.
- We start the wash at 700C for three hours. The cabbage rolls will be perfectly cooked in 2.5-3 hours.
Stewed pollock
The last recipe for today will be related to the preparation of cheap, but very tasty and healthy fish - pollock. We prepare the dishwasher for use, leaving space in the top basket for a jar of food. We put the following products on the table: pollock cut into large pieces - 300 g, olive or sunflower oil (you need 1 tablespoon), half a lemon, salt, pepper, 2 bay leaves.
- We wash and clean the fish.
- Salt the pieces of pollock, pepper them and sprinkle with lemon juice.
- Place the fish pieces in a jar and pour in vegetable oil.
- Let the fish stand in the refrigerator for 30-40 minutes.
- Next, put a bay leaf in a jar, carefully seal the container with the fish and put it in the dishwasher.
- We start intensive washing and wait for it to finish in order to take out freshly prepared fish and serve it to the table.
It turns out that you can cook a wide variety of foods in a dishwasher. Especially interesting cooking fish in the dishwasher. At the same time, it is not just cooked, but retains all the substances useful to the human body. This, of course, is not cooking for every day, but you can experiment, especially if you have a mind no less inquisitive than the Europeans. Good luck!
