The star on the Bosch dishwasher is lit
What to do if the star light on your Bosch dishwasher is on? Maybe the blinking of this LED indicates a breakdown? Is it possible to use a dishwasher? Let's figure out what the persistently glowing indicator says.
Purpose of the indicator
Users call this LED by different names. To some it resembles a star, to others a snowflake, to others the sun. The blinking light does not mean anything bad - the dishwasher tells you that it’s time to fill the dispenser with dish rinse aid.
The rinse aid performs several functions. Firstly, it prevents the appearance of whitish stains on dishes. Secondly, it speeds up the drying of cutlery. You can use Bosch PMM with or without it - it is not mandatory, but an additional tool.
This means that the “star” can be constantly on if the housewife does not use dish rinse aid. Nothing wrong with that. If you are annoyed by the glow, but do not want to use a streak-preventing product, pour plain water into the compartment and the light will go out. However, it is better not to take any action and operate the dishwasher with a flashing LED.
Icons on the Bosch PMM panel
It is now clear that if the star is on on a Bosch dishwasher, then no action can be taken. However, in addition to this LED, there are many other icons on the PMM panel that may not be clear to the user. Let's figure out what other symbols are found on the dashboards of Bosch washing machines.
- Saucepan with stand. This symbol indicates the intensive dishwashing mode. The water in the chamber warms up to 70°C. The duration of the program is about 120 minutes.
- Cup and saucer (on some models the inscription “Auto”). Indicates the standard washing program. The water warms up to 45-65°C.
- "ECO". An algorithm that involves saving water and electricity. The water in the working chamber warms up to 50°C.
- Wine glass and mug on a stand plus arrows. This pattern indicates express mode, lasting 30 minutes.
- "Fountain" of water droplets. The symbol indicates the "Pre-rinse" option. Before the main wash begins, the dishes are additionally “watered” with water.
- +/- with the letter H. These buttons can be used to adjust the execution time of the washing algorithm.
- Wineglass. Indicates the delicate wash cycle. This program is designed to care for fragile dishes: crystal, porcelain, glass.
- A clock with hands pointing to the right. "VarioSpeed" option symbol. By activating this function, you can reduce washing time by 20-50%.
- "1/2". This indicates the additional option “Half Load”. It is designed for situations where you need to wash a few dishes. The dishwasher uses 30% less water and kilowatts.
- Baby bottle. This graphic represents the Hygiene Plus option. When activated, the dishes in the washing chamber are disinfected.
- Pan in a rectangle. This symbol indicates a mode in which the cutlery in the lower basket is subjected to high temperature treatment.
Among the auxiliary indicators on the control panel of Bosch dishwashers:
- “brush” – lights up during the main wash;
- “END” – means that the cycle is completed;
- “faucet” – lights up while water is being poured into the PMM;
- a pair of arrows in the form of waves is an indicator of the presence of regenerating salt in the ion exchanger.
A description of all indicators available on the Bosch PMM dashboard is presented in the equipment instructions.
There may be difficulties only at first. Next, users remember what this or that indicator informs about. Operating your dishwasher becomes easier.
What if the lights are flashing?
It happens that there is an unusual blinking of the LEDs, which is not typical for a normally functioning machine. Sometimes flickering indicators on the control panel indicate a breakdown of the PMM. To understand what exactly happened, it is worth understanding the main “combinations”.
- The brush indicator blinks. In most cases, this indicates that the leakage protection system has activated. Sometimes the cause of blinking is a system failure; to eliminate it, turn off the power to the machine, leave it for 15-20 minutes and start again. Often such actions help to reset the error; if not, then it really is a leak and will have to be fixed.
- The faucet LED is blinking. This indicates a problem with water intake into the system. The disorder can be caused by various factors. Check whether the shut-off valve is blocked, whether the inlet hose is squashed, or whether the filter is clogged. Make sure the water supply to the house has not been turned off.
- Flashing of the “faucet” and the “END” LED. Indicates that the Aquastop system has activated. Check the inlet hose. If everything is fine, water has probably accumulated in the pan.
- All indicators on the dashboard flicker at once. This indicates damage to the main control module. A common cause is moisture getting on the board. Sometimes the problem is a defect in some individual semiconductor on the block.
- The “drying” LED flashes. This indicates difficulty draining water from the chamber. Check if the drain hose is kinked or if the filter unit is clogged.
It is not recommended to use the dishwasher until the problem is resolved.
You can deal with some problems yourself. For example, clean the filter, replace a hose or other PMM unit. It is better to invite a specialist to diagnose and repair the control module.
