What is Eco-wash in a washing machine?
Most washing machine owners have probably encountered the mysterious “Eco” inscription on the panel of their device. Some argue that a program marked “Eco” has something to do with the environment, while others argue that it’s actually about efficiency. So the question arises, after all, what is Eco-washing and why is it needed in everyday life?
Economical or environmentally friendly?
The difficulty is that versions of both environmental friendliness and efficiency have a right to exist. After all, both problems are relevant for all users of washing machines. This is where misunderstandings arise. However, if you analyze just a few operating instructions for washing machines (of different brands for the purity of the experiment), you can easily understand what the ECO mode in a washing machine is. This is a savings program.
It lies in the fact that the ECO mode is designed for minimal water and energy consumption. This means that you can pay significantly less on receipts by regularly using this mode.
But you must always remember that it is impossible to kill two birds with one stone at the same time. When saving water and electricity, you will have to sacrifice your time, and maybe even the quality of the wash.. The thing is that, firstly, washing using the eco-program lasts a very long time, on average about three hours. Secondly, in order to save energy, the unit practically does not heat the water, so it does not exceed 40 degrees. And lastly, the speed of revolutions is very low, so the washing process is more like a regular soaking. With such parameters, it is unlikely that it will be possible to remove serious stains.
Important! In practice, this mode mainly saves electricity, consuming it by half. As for water, the indicators differ little from those of regular washing. Except for some highly economical washing machines, but these are more likely features of the models rather than the mode.
ECO on Samsung machines
According to statistics, in Russia Samsung machines occupy one of the leading positions in terms of use among ordinary users. Therefore, let’s look at what Eco modes are on one of the models called Samsung WF1602YQR. The savings program for this SM is listed as “Intensive IVF” and has the following features:
- The drum can only be loaded 2/3 full in this mode. This is not entirely convenient, because if your machine has a load of 6 kg, then you will only have to wash 4.
- There is no pre-wash option.
Attention! Not pre-washing will help save some water. However, during the main wash, your items will spend a sufficient amount of time in the soapy solution. This means that the effect will be similar.
- On average, washing takes 4 hours, of which 3 hours and 40 minutes are the main wash, and another 20 minutes are for activating additional functions.
- Washing mode – 40 degrees.
- Additional options include the Eco Bubble, Easy Ironing and Delay functions, which can be activated if desired.
The above means that if you have enough time, you can safely turn on this mode. But if you need to wash things quickly, you will have to give up saving. And yes, don’t forget that Eco is about saving; the regime has nothing to do with the environment. Basically, with the help of this program you can save electricity, since the problem of high electricity tariffs is acute not only in Russia, but also in the West. That is why Western engineers came up with such a special regime.
