Diagnostics of the Electrolux washing machine

Diagnostics of the Electrolux washing machineIt is quite difficult to understand from external signs what exactly is broken in an automatic machine. The same “symptom” may indicate problems with the pressure switch, the intake valve, the drain system, and even the control module.

Fortunately, modern washing machines are equipped with a “service” mode. When it starts, the machine begins a self-test and notifies the user about any faults found. Let's figure out how to diagnose an Electrolux washing machine in order to narrow down the range of possible problems.

Characteristics and launch of diagnostics

Before disassembling the body of the machine to inspect its “insides” and understand what exactly is broken, it is better to run a service test. Diagnostic mode is a built-in function on Electrolux washing machines with the EWM1000(+) control system. Using this program, you can independently check at home how well the main components of the machine work.

The instrument panels of Electroluxes with this control system are presented in two variations: with vertical and horizontal position of the keys.

To understand how to correctly enter the diagnostic mode, you need to focus on the type of instrument panel. For washing machines with a “horizontal” panel, the algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • put the programmer in the initial position (0 or OFF);
  • Hold down the “Start/Pause” and “Option” buttons on the panel. Hold them;
  • turn the selector to the right, to the first position.

The indicator on the dashboard should light up. This will indicate the successful launch of the self-diagnostic mode.

For Electrolux washing machines, the buttons of which are located vertically on the control panel, the procedure for activating the service mode will be as follows:

  • move the programmer to the initial position (0 or OFF);
  • press and hold the two keys located in the upper left corner of the “tidy”;
  • Scroll the program selector knob to the first position.

An audible signal will indicate that the diagnostic mode is activated. Next, you can begin to check all the elements of the washing machine one by one for functionality.

Stages of passing the test

Electrolux automatic machines with control type EWM1000(+) have 9 test modes, two of which are reserved and are not used for diagnostics. They are switched by turning the programmer knob clockwise. Let's figure out what actions the washing machine performs at each stage of testing.

Mode 1. Activated immediately, simultaneously with the launch of the service test. Needed to check the programmer, all buttons and LEDs on the control panel. At this stage, you can see how well the “tidy” works. When you press a key, the corresponding indicator should light up, while other lights not associated with the selected buttons will continue to blink.

Mode 2. To start it, you need to turn the selector knob to the right one step, to the second position. This step checks the inlet valve that “allows” water through the powder receiver section for the main wash. To successfully carry out diagnostics it is required that:

  • the machine was connected to the water supply;
  • The drum door was slammed shut.

The washing machine blocks the hatch (if this is not possible, it records the corresponding error code), the solenoid valve begins to collect liquid. The amount of water is “monitored” by a pressure switch. Before proceeding to the next stage of diagnosis, you need to wait 5 minutes.

Mode 3. At this stage, the machine checks how the valve “passes” water through the cuvette compartment intended for pre-washing. To enable the mode, you need to put the programmer in the third position. To perform the test, it is also important that the equipment is connected to cold water. The diagnosis lasts about five minutes.

Mode 4. Necessary for testing both solenoid valves. Water is poured into the tank through the rinse aid section. To activate the mode, you need to turn the programmer to position 4. To successfully complete the diagnostic stage, it is important that the valves, UBL and pressure switch function properly. Duration – 5 minutes.

Mode 5. Not relevant for Electrolux washing machines with control type EWM1000(+). It is reserved for automatic machines that have 3 water intake valves.

Mode 6. Allows you to check the heating element and thermostat. The programmer is placed in position 6. At this diagnostic stage, the hatch door is locked, water is filled into the tank to the required level. The heater is activated, which should heat the liquid to 90°C. The element is given 10 minutes to complete the task. If the desired temperature is not reached within the allotted time, the machine will record an error code indicating a malfunction.

Mode 7. Necessary for checking the SMA electric motor. The program switch knob is moved to the seventh position. The hatch door is still locked.If there is not enough water in the tank to continue the diagnosis, the inlet valve opens again. Next, the motor and drive mechanism are activated. First, the engine spins the drum up to 55 revolutions - as when performing the main wash cycle. Rotation occurs both clockwise and in the other direction. At the end, the engine accelerates the machine to 250 rpm.

Mode 8. At this stage, the serviceability of the drain pump and pressure switch is confirmed (the sensor must monitor the lack of water in the system). To activate the test, the selector knob is rotated to the eighth position. The washing machine starts the pump. In the process of removing liquid from the machine, the engine is connected. Here the motor spins the drum to the maximum possible speed (for each specific Electrolux model the speed will be different). After the tank is “emptied”, the diagnostic cycle ends.

To exit the diagnostic mode, you need to turn off the machine, then turn on and turn off the device again.

This is how easy it is to check your Electrolux washing machine for faults with your own hands. During diagnostics, the machine records error codes in memory. Let's figure out how to see what problems the equipment has identified.

How to display the latest fault code?

determine the code by flashing lights 3 pointDuring the test, errors are recorded in the memory of the Electrolux automatic machine. To view the last recorded code, you need to move the programmer knob to the tenth position. The “End of cycle” and “Start/Pause” LEDs on the dashboard will flash.

To find out the latest code, you need to watch the display blinking. The first light means tens, and the second - units of the encrypted error code. Flashes occur in a series, with a pause of 0.4 seconds.

There will be a longer pause of 2.5 seconds between the series of flashes. By counting the number of flashes of the first and second LEDs, you can calculate the required fault code.

If you lose count, you can wait for a long stop and start counting again. Having remembered the two numbers that the machine will point to, you need to open the instructions and decipher the code. The book describes what malfunctions this or that error indicates.

How to delete a saved code?

You can independently find out the extreme identified error and remove the code from memory. You should scroll the programmer to position 10 and simultaneously hold down the “Start/Pause” and “Option” keys for 3-4 seconds.

“Friendly” blinking of all indications on the control panel will indicate that the fault code has been deleted. To erase all errors recorded in the intellect, the procedure must be performed several times in a row. The number of “cancellations” will depend on the number of problems detected by the washing machine.
