Cleaning the dryer coil
Dryers are in many ways very similar to modern washing machines, but there are significant differences in these household appliances. Many of them greatly surprise new users who are not yet accustomed to the “home assistant”. For example, owners of drying equipment often forget to clean the heat exchanger of the dryer in time, which is why a lot of dust forms in it. Let us carefully analyze this feature of dryers, which needs to be paid attention from time to time.
We get rid of dust from this part
On average, your dryer's heat exchanger should be thoroughly cleaned about once a month. The exact number of cleanings depends directly on how actively the household appliances are used. Cleaning is very important, because if there is dust and various debris in the heat exchanger, this will not only prolong the time required for drying things, but will also have a bad effect on the quality of operation of the device.
To clean the equipment, you must first unplug it and wait until it cools down. Next, you need to put a few unnecessary towels or large rags under the hatch door in case the waste liquid remains in the machine, which will allow you to avoid flooding the floors. Then follow our instructions.
- Locate the heat exchanger door, which is located at the bottom of the dryer's front panel.
The door can be located under the loading hatch on the right or left - it depends on the model of the dryer and the brand of the manufacturer.
- Open the door and be sure to rotate the two unit levers towards each other to remove the top cover of the unit.
- Carefully remove the heat exchanger itself.
- Rinse the part under a strong stream of warm tap water to remove all debris.
- If necessary, use soft sponges and cloths when cleaning, but under no circumstances use sharp objects or brushes with an abrasive surface, as they can damage the fragile unit.
- Remove dust and lint from both the heat exchanger itself and the seal.
- There is no need to wait for the part to dry completely, just make sure that all the water has drained away. After this, the heat exchanger can be installed back, not forgetting about the protective cover and two locking levers, which must be turned to their original position.
As you can see, cleaning is easy to do at home, because there are not very many points in it, and all of them are completed in less than fifteen minutes, so you should not neglect preventive cleaning at least once a month.
Why does so much dust collect?
Cleaning is necessary for the “home assistant” due to the fact that lint, dust and other contaminants often get into it along with clothes, even if the items have just been processed in the washing machine. When things are dried outdoors or in the house, all the dust gradually moves away from the products and into the air, which is clearly visible in enclosed spaces where people inhale dust and other small particles.
If you dry wet clothes not the old fashioned way on clotheslines, but in modern dryers, then all this dust and small particles will remain in the fluff filter. This way, harmful substances will not penetrate into the air, causing the dryer, rather than the user, to take the blow. There is usually so much dust and small particles on clothes that the filter of the machine becomes dirty after just a few working cycles, and after about the fifth it already needs thorough cleaning.
Experts advise cleaning the lint filter immediately after each operating cycle to protect your expensive household appliances. Therefore, the presence of dust in the dryer is a natural process that you should not be afraid of, because it is better for the dust to remain in the filter than to penetrate into the air, and then into the lungs of family members.
Just try to clean the lint filter as often as possible to ensure that your machine will serve you for many years. This is very simple to do - the unit can be easily removed, rinsed with water and cleaned with your own hands. For convenience, you can combine this process with scheduled cleaning of the heat exchanger and other elements that require careful care.
Condensate reservoir and humidity sensor
Manufacturers install a special humidity sensor in dryers so that during the operating cycle the device can measure the moisture level of items. The part is made of stainless steel, but over time, lime may appear on it, as well as particles of household chemicals remaining. This thin layer must be removed in a timely manner, otherwise deposits will begin to affect the accuracy of the sensor, and therefore the drying efficiency.
To clean, just open the door and carefully remove dirt from the element with a damp cloth. As with the heat exchanger, abrasive brushes should not be used as they may damage the sensor.
It is also necessary to remove all condensate from a special tank after each operating cycle. If this is not done, the machine may refuse to work, since the condensate container will be overfilled. To clean, simply remove the condensate compartment, holding it horizontally, drain all the liquid and replace the container. Be sure to make sure that the tank is properly secured.
