Which washing powder is the safest?
As long as there are no newborns, small children or allergy sufferers in the family, almost any washing powder seems normal. Many people in our country and abroad frankly do not pay much attention to the environmental friendliness of washing powder - it washes well, is inexpensive, that’s great, but we don’t have time to read what’s in it, we need to wash it. When newborn children appear in the family, the situation changes dramatically, young mothers begin to sharply look for a truly safe remedy. And this is where some pretty serious problems arise.
Harmful chemicals
The safest washing powder in the world, what should it look like, what color is its label, and does it even exist in nature? These and other questions are constantly asked by people who are faced with the fact that their usual washing powder causes irreparable harm to their health and the health of their loved ones. Unfortunately, in order to determine for certain whether a washing powder is safe or not, it is not enough to watch a commercial with movie stars and study the front side of the package. You need to understand the chemical composition of this powder.
At a minimum, you need to read what components this powder consists of, and at most, send samples of pre-selected products to the laboratory for testing. The latter option is unlikely at the household level, so we will focus your attention on the composition of the powder and the components that are included in this composition. Which chemical component of the powder is safe and which is not?
Partially the answer to this question is contained in the article Washing powder without phosphates and surfactants. It describes in some detail the components of washing powders that are unsafe for health.. Accordingly, if the powder does not contain the chemicals discussed in this publication, then the powder is conditionally safe, but does this make it the safest and most effective?
The safest powders that are used for washing clothes of newborns are, as a rule, ineffective and are not suitable for washing dirty laundry of adults, because they are based on ordinary soap.
Review of non-hazardous powders
You can talk about dangerous and non-hazardous powders for a very long time, but it will only be of little use. We decided to simplify your search task a little, we studied the market ourselves and selected several samples to include them in the review, which we called - the best and safest powder.
The rating in this case is implied, but we deliberately did not compile it, presenting samples only as part of the review. We think that after studying this review, you can easily make a rating for yourself and determine which sample is most suitable for newborns. Here are the laundry detergents for newborns and small children that we chose for our review.
- A series of Japanese powders from Shabondama. This brand produces several powders that differ mainly in the aroma of natural fragrances, but in the main they are similar - all of these powders consist of 99% natural soap. No chlorine, surfactants, phosphates, zeolites or other dubious chemicals, but the cost of the powder is not at all childish - about $12 per 1 kg. It washes diapers and undershirts perfectly and does not cause allergies.
- Powder soap from MIYOSHI is a little less safe. But in general, if you rinse out newborn diapers well, this powder will not cause any harm and will not cause allergies. The basis of this powder is soap crumbs, and 1/3 of the volume is natural alkali. This powder soap washes much better than Shabondama products, and, unfortunately, it is not much cheaper - $23 for 2 kilograms of 100 grams of powder.
- Even more effective, but no less safe, Molecola Ecological for Baby powder. One of the best powders for newborns and small children in Europe. In principle, they can also wash moderately soiled adult clothes. Washing powder contains three components: soda, coconut soap and sodium citrate. Everything is natural and safe. The powder costs about $5.5 per 1 kg.
Sodium citrate is an internationally recognized food additive that is widely used in cooking around the world. As a powder component, this additive is completely harmless.
- Powders from the ECO LEIV series have also proven themselves to be excellent. They can be used to wash even newborn diapers or work clothes. This powder is not as effective as its chemical-laden counterparts, but it is still very good. Ingredients: soap crumbs, sodium silicate, sodium carbonate, aloe extract and enzymes. Nothing that could harm the baby's fragile health, so use with confidence. Washing powder costs $4.50 per 1 kg.
Homemade remedy
A manufacturer of soap powders can claim as much as they like that their products are completely safe for health and the environment. However, you need to understand that no one is immune from counterfeiting, especially expensive products. It’s worth buying a fake pack of powder once, and then running to dermatologists with your newborn child. To ensure that this does not happen, you can make powder for children and allergy sufferers with your own hands.
The powder is made very simply from the most common ingredients. Among these components, the main ones will be soap and soda ash. In one of our earlier publications, we already talked about several good homemade powder recipes based on these two ingredients. If you are interested read the article Washing powder made from soap and soda ash, we will not repeat ourselves.
By making the powder from the simplest and proven ingredients, you will take maximum care of your loved ones, especially children.
In conclusion, we note that the market is overflowing with dangerous washing powders, which can actually cause acute allergies in children and adults, and in some cases, serious dermatological diseases. In some cases, double rinsing clothes after washing will help, but it is better to initially use safe products that have yet to be found.
