Review of activator spin washing machines
When talking about an activator washing machine with a spin function, most people will imagine the Siberia or Assol machine - the one that was used three decades ago. In fact, activator-type washing machines with a spin are not only outdated models that are in demand today only among summer residents, students or bachelors. There are modern models of equipment with a similar device, and they can easily compete with drum-type automatic machines.
Briefly about the design of such a machine
Production technologies of modern equipment have made significant strides forward. And if in Soviet washing machines the device by which the laundry rotated was an asymmetrical paddle activator, now such an activator is called an impeller. The impeller looks like a bell, which has symmetrical ribs of different sizes and rotates in different directions. Thus, the water in the drum rotates smoothly, and the laundry does not twist or wear out.
The impeller has holes through which air bubbles pass during washing. This “bubble” technology makes it possible to wash clothes better, and also to better rinse detergents from the fabric.
Spinning in such a machine occurs according to the principle of a centrifuge. The laundry remains in the drum; there is no need to transfer it anywhere. When the drum rotates, water leaves through small holes in the walls of the drum.
Review of semi-automatic machines with spin
Activator washing machines can be divided into two classes according to price category: expensive and cheap. We have already described cheap washing machines in the article How to choose a semi-automatic spin washing machine, but we will look at the models of modern activator machines in more detail:
- Whirlpool Vantage - this elite class machine has 33 washing programs in its arsenal. You can wash not only children's clothes, school uniforms and sportswear in it, but also bath mats, shoes and other specific items. The drum capacity of this beauty is 11.5 kg. It also attracts touch control, which is no longer surprising to the younger generation. The display, about 18 cm in size, displays detailed information about the washing process. In general, this washing machine is worthy of the highest praise; it costs about $2,000.
- The Maytag Centennial MVWC360AW is an activator spin washing machine with 11 wash modes. This machine uses water sparingly thanks to a built-in sensor that detects the weight of loaded laundry. Energy consumption is also reduced due to direct drive.
- Daewoo DWF-806 is an automatic washing machine with air-bubble washing from a Korean manufacturer. The maximum load is 6 kg of dry laundry. The peculiarity of the machine is that you can not only select a ready-made program, but also set the washing, rinsing and spinning time yourself. Can be connected to cold and hot water.
Advantages and disadvantages
The activator-type washing machines we discussed above are automatic. They, like any other machines, have their strengths and weaknesses. Let's start with the advantages:
- firstly, they have vertical loading, which is much more convenient than front loading. There is no need to bend over when loading or removing laundry;
- secondly, unlike drum-type vertical machines, the activator machine does not have closing flaps on the drum.If during washing there is a power outage and the drum stops with the flaps facing down, the laundry will remain in the machine until it turns on again. A machine with an activator can be opened without problems;
- thirdly, these washing machines are less picky about laundry detergents. This means that you can use hand washing powder and even shampoo without fear of a large amount of foam appearing;
- fourthly, activator machines can be connected to hot water, saving energy and time for washing;
- fifthly, the absence of a water heater and a drive belt on the engine makes it more reliable and easier to repair if something happens.
It is also important that washing machines with a similar tank arrangement are less noisy. As for the price of this equipment, it is no higher than for front-loading automatic machines.
The disadvantages of this technique are very subjective:
- Energy savings lead to water costs. In addition, the water consumption in them may be higher, because the drum is filled almost full;
- there is little variety among the models of automatic machines, but there are quite a lot of semi-automatic machines, but people prefer to buy them exclusively for the dacha.
As you can see, activator washing machines with a spin function can be not only double-tank, as we are used to, but also single-tank. At the same time, have a large arsenal of functions and programs, coping even with delicate things.
